COMAL COUNTY FLOOD UPDATE
08:45AM 07-16-26

Many of you have been asking what the floodwaters from upstream mean for Comal County, so here’s the latest.

The water currently moving downstream from Kerr County and other areas upstream will be making its way toward Canyon Lake. Since this water is above Canyon Dam, it is expected to flow into Canyon Lake.

At this time, areas downstream of Canyon Dam, including the Guadalupe River toward New Braunfels, are not expected to see significant rises simply from this incoming water.

For those who live upstream of Canyon Lake along the Guadalupe River, especially above Highway 281, river levels will continue to rise as this water arrives. If you live near the river, keep a close eye on conditions and avoid all low water crossings. Water levels can change quickly.

Based on the information available right now, my personal opinion is that water levels in the Comal County area are not expected to be significantly higher than what we experienced yesterday, and I do not currently believe there is a major threat to homes or other structures in our area. Of course, forecasts can change, and we’ll continue to monitor conditions closely.

The biggest concern for Comal County right now is the large volume of water making its way downstream from counties that have received much heavier rainfall. Fortunately, that water is expected to continue into Canyon Lake.

As always, we’ll keep you updated if conditions change. Please stay alert, never drive through flooded roadways, and continue to use caution around the Guadalupe River and all low water crossings.

Thank you!
