So many people in New Orleans complain about the summer heat. Summer brings some of my favorite things in our courtyard. Water lilies and clouds of pink crape myrtle blossoms.

As we head into All souls day and the traditions performed for the day of the dead in New Orleans it brings to mind so many of the unusual mourning practices of the 1800s. Here at Antebellum Guest house we have an unusual marble keystone in our back parlor fireplace. The dead dove is a mourning symbol of a life cut short & the loss of a loved one. The lady of this house was in mourning for 47 years.

After several months work, I started early March, the dinning room is finally done. Walls & ceiling now have the closest look to it's original appearance.

As most of you know Antebellum Guest house has been closed due to the covid 19 pandemic since March 2020. Art & I have been using this down time to work on several restoration projects. We are now finishing some up some of the last projects as we prepare to finally reopen some time next month. Thought you might enjoy a glimpse of what we have been up to all this time. Will post more picture soon.
