The wealthy can no longer truly comprehend poverty, just as the popular can no longer grasp real loneliness, the successful can never fully understand failure, and the obese can never truly know starvation.
They might feel hunger, but not the desperate, end-of-the-rope hunger that screams, “I will die if nothing changes soon.” The same goes for loneliness, poverty, or failure—they can sense echoes of these things, but they cannot truly understand them.
It’s not that they refuse to understand or don’t care to; it’s that they literally cannot. Their life experience has built an impenetrable barrier—no amount of empathy or imagination can fully cross it when the raw, existential edge of those states has never been lived.
