Rescue definitely has it’s good days and bad, and not every story has a happy ending. We usually try to only share the good but once in a while we share the bad to help everyone out there realize what really goes into rescue. It’s been a tough month here at DHOH. On Monday we had to say farewell to DHOH “Silver (3)”. Silver came in as a surrender in bad shape. We removed some very infected teeth and were hoping for a turnaround. Although she gained weight, she continued to have difficulty breathing. It was finally discovered after scoping, X-rays and ultrasounds that Silver had a mass in her nasal cavity as well as a large mass in her head behind her eye and ear that was inoperable. DHOH “Veil” was at LEqMC last week having a melanoma removed from her eye. DHOH “Sampson (2)” colicked for 2 days and required multiple visits from the vet and IV fluids. He is doing better today :)
An onset of thin horses has bumped our grain bill up to $500/week. We are getting our winter hay delivered and stacked... 2 semi loads have arrived with a 3rd on the way.

The moral of the story is that we could sure use some help with funding to continue supplying top notch care to our horses. In a year that holding good old fashioned fundraisers is impossible, it sure makes fundraising hard... and awkward. But the work here stays the same and horses needs must still be met.

If you like what we do we would be forever grateful for your donation. If you can’t afford to donate we understand that too... but maybe you can share the post :)

For the first 20 donations of or over $100 we will send you a DHOH swag item... so please send us your address. You can donate here on FB or through PayPal at [email protected]
Or through Vemno

Huge thanks in advance! We will also be getting a small tack sale on the calendar in the next few weeks to raise some money. We will keep you all posted on that!

As always, thank you for supporting rescue!

Cimarron no longer has the lump on his jaw!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Cimarron was recently rescued along with 10 other dude ranch horses. During his initial intake exam, we noticed a mass on the left side of his jaw. While our vet did not seem to think it was causing any pain, it did interfere with his ability to be safely haltered and bridled. An x-ray showed that at some point Cimarron had broken his jaw, causing excessive bony growth. Thanks to funding from the Wags and Menace Make a Difference Foundation our vet performed surgery to remove the mass. Cimarron has now healed and his future adoptive family will be able to halter and bridle him with ease.
