Lower Grove Park and Sorghum Mill

Lower Grove Park and Sorghum Mill A campground out in the country offering peace and quiet. It is not a place to live. So if you are n

Our campground is open from May-October and it is only $10 a night to camp. We have restroom facilities on site and electricty hook ups for your camper. We take reservations for group outings and would love to have you. Please call Nancy Spoelstra at 641-780-1094 to reserve the park. We have a shelter house and a outdoor fire ring as well and plenty of picnic tables. We also have a bag swing and a

little park with a tree house for kids. For the adults there is a horse shoe pit and lots of shade to sit and relax. In September we host the annual harvest days and this year the expected date is September 15 and plan to spend the day watching how they make sorghum. If you want to see how the whole process works please call Nancy and she can let you know when they will start stripping the leaves off the sorghum and harvesting it (it is usually the day before). Then on the harvest day they press the sorghum or stroop as the older generation might know it as and then they cook it but I do not recomend staying to the very end as it can get very late (it has been know to cook till about three am) and it can get very boring just sitting there watching it cook. If you have any questions please call Nancy or email them to [email protected].

Lower grove is in the process of changing hands and we appreciate all the support through the years. Clarence and Nancy appreciate you all and thank you for visiting their little campground. We are not sure what the new owners have in store for the park. In the comments leave a memory you have as I want to put together a little memory book for Clarence and Nancy.

Calling all help. My grandparents plan to do another batch of sorghum this Wednesday at 8am and she says she has enough help but they are tired and they are stressed and if anyone could come out and help at least with the pressing part that would help alleviate some stress. She would sure appreciate it. Thank you all for your continued support of Lower Grove park
