New Smyrna Lodge #149 F. & A. M. New Smyrna Lodge 149 meets every 1st & 3rd Monday. Dinner at 6pm, Meeting at 7pm. This is why the Lodge is called New Smyrna instead of New Smyrna Beach.

About Us

On January, 22 1896, 15 Master Masons and one Entered Apprentice residing in the New Smyrna area were granted a charter of Free and Accepted Masons under The Grand Lodge of Florida. The town at that time was simply named New Smyrna and the Lodge took the same name and was granted the lodge number of 149. The first meeting was held on the 2nd floor of the C.L. Dohn Livery Stables on the c

orner of Faulkner and Canal streets. Meetings continued at this location until Friday October 13th 1905 when the building was destroyed by fire. It seemed all was lost! The Members of the Lodge did as Masons always do; “Masons always rise to the occasion.” They met in various locales over the next few years, including the Werfelman Building until 1927 when the present Temple was
constructed. For more History on our lodge visit our History page. Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the State of Florida Website: http://www.glflamason.org/index.htm

I think this Brother just hit the nail on the head. What say ye?

One Brother commented on my latest reel and really stopped me in my tracks.

He essentially said it’s not about what a man is when he joins it’s about what he’s capable of becoming.

He shared that when he first joined, he could barely speak in front of a group.

Less than ten years later, he served two years in the East, became a Grand Lodge officer, and now serves as Vice President of his Shrine club.

That didn’t happen by accident.

That happened because the Brethren saw something in him that he did not, the beauty within the rough ashlar.

They gave him the light, the time, the tools, and the support to grow.

This is why discernment matters.
Not to demand perfection…
but to recognize potential, character, and willingness to do the work.

So maybe the question isn’t just “Is he ready today?”

Maybe it’s also “Is he willing to be shaped for tomorrow?”

We must always remember it’s the internal and not the external…

What potential have you seen unlocked in a Brother, or in yourself?
