Free concerts in Prospect Park!
The festival celebrates its 41st season running through August 10. The programming, reflective of Brooklyn’s eclecticism and diversity, will feature a wide array of free, world-class performances at the beautiful Prospect Park Bandshell. Winner of the Village Voice Readers’ Poll and Critics’ Picks for “Best Free Concert Series,” the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, presented by BRIC in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance, is New York’s longest-running, free outdoor performing arts festival, and takes place each summer at the Prospect Park Bandshell.

Spring has arrived! The cherry blossoms are vibrant.

Brooklyn Museum hosts “Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving”, the largest U.S. exhibition in ten years devoted to the iconic painter and the first in the US to display a collection of her clothing and other personal possessions, which were rediscovered and inventoried in 2004 after being locked away since Kahlo’s death, in 1954. It runs through May 12.

‘David Bowie Is’ til July 15

We are honored that the Brooklyn Museum is hosting the last leg of the tour, ‘David Bowie Is’.

I loved the exhibition and it brought back decades of memories. It seems the international crowd of viewers around me was as appreciative as I. Make sure you purchase your timed tickets before you go! That ticket allows entry to the remarkable Brooklyn Museum, always worth visiting the temporary exhibitions as well as their permanent collections.

After five years of touring internationally, the record-breaking David Bowie career retrospective 'David Bowie Is' will take its final bow at the Brooklyn Museum ending July 15.

The sprawling exhibit, which includes over 60 performance costumes, handwritten lyrics, and Bowie’s own oil paintings, breaks new ground through its non-linear storytelling.

Even if you’ve seen this exhibit in London or other places, the Brooklyn Museum added 80 new pieces to the show, many of which focus on Bowie’s years in New York City.

The Celebrate Brooklyn! 2017 season schedule was just announced for the concerts at the Prospect Park Bandshell.
There's only one free summer-long outdoor concert and performance series in New York City that has been presenting talent from around the world and around the block for nearly 40 years: the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival.

Excellent article today in the NY Times Travel section - 36 Hours - Brooklyn. A shout out to some of our favorites from this neighborhood highlighted like Werstatt, Sycamore Bar & Flower Shop, the renovated Kings Theatre as well as the diversity of Coney Island, right off the Q line. We all know that Brooklyn needs much more than 36 hours though great information is provided here.

South of Williamsburg, you can find an older Brooklyn: boisterous and beautiful, worldly with working-class roots.

Our fabulous Q train at Newkirk Plaza, a few minutes from here, now goes to 96th Street in the Upper East Side on the new Second Avenue Subway line. What a great convenience yesterday when I met a friend in that neighborhood.

The station is more wide open than most others in the NYC system with a design seen as similar to the Washington, DC Metro stations. The artwork, "Blueprint for a Landscape" by Sarah Sze, consists of a dark-blue landscape of things being blown around as if by an incoming train. The permanent installation is located on the 4,300 porcelain wall panels of the station.
