Come find us from 10 AM–2 PM at the Shorewood Neighborhood Greenway Day event! We’ll be at the first stop at Kensington and Wilson.

We’re proud to support an initiative that will help keep Shorewood a safe, walkable, and bikeable village. Stop by and say hello!

We’ve had a great time over the last few days talking with Shorewood residents about our future neighborhood greenways - a subset of Shorewood’s residential streets that will be designed to encourage slower vehicle speeds and increase safety for people walking, biking, and rolling.

On Saturday, July 11, we’ll be having the big event! Check out some of our proposed neighborhood greenway routes, see example projects, talk with neighbors, and give us feedback. There will even be light bike maintenance and popsicles. Everybody is welcome! Do the whole route or just stop by a few stations.

There will also a presentation and tour for folks that want more detail and discussion on the project. Meet us at 10:30 am for a presentation and a walking or biking tour (your choice) on the lower level of the Village Center at 3920 N. Murray Ave. Please bring your own bike and helmet if you are planning on biking.

Learn more about the project at https://www.villageofshorewood.org/Neighborhood-Greenways. See you soon!

Important safety reminder from the Shorewood Police Department-

As more bicycles, e-Bikes, and e-Trikes are out around Shorewood, it’s important for riders and families to understand the difference between legal e-bikes and e-motos.

This is about keeping everyone safe: riders, kids, pedestrians, drivers, and neighbors using our roads, sidewalks, bike paths, and trails.

Before riding, please check that your cycle is appropriate for where you plan to ride, follow traffic laws, use lights, wear a helmet, and make sure kids are riding safely and legally.

Safe riding helps keep Shorewood bike-friendly for everyone. If you have any questions about what class of e-Bike you are riding, send us a note and we would be happy to help. -Tim

🚲⚡ Know the Difference. Ride the Right Way. ⚡🏍️

As the weather warms up, we're seeing more bicycles and e-bikes throughout the Village—and we love seeing our community outside enjoying the ride!

At the Shorewood Police Department, we fully support the safe and responsible use of bicycles and properly classified e-bikes. Whether you're commuting, exercising, or just out for fun, we ask everyone to do their part to keep our roads safe.

Here's what every rider should know:
✅ E-bikes that meet Wisconsin's Class 1, 2, or 3 standards are legal to operate where bicycles are permitted (subject to local regulations).
❌ E-motos (electric dirt bikes/off-road motorcycles), even if they have pedals, are not legal to operate on public roads, sidewalks, bike paths, or multi-use trails because they do not meet Wisconsin's legal definition of an e-bike.

A few friendly reminders:
🪖 Helmets are strongly recommended for every rider—your best accessory is one that protects your brain.
🚦 Obey all traffic signs, signals, and laws. E-bikes are vehicles on the roadway and come with the same responsibilities as bicycles.
👀 Be visible! Use lights at night and wear bright or reflective clothing.
👦 Riders under 16 years of age may not operate a Class 3 e-bike on roadways in Wisconsin.
🤝 Ride courteously and share the road and trails with everyone.

Our goal isn't to stop you from having fun—it's to help ensure everyone gets home safely. A little knowledge goes a long way toward preventing crashes, injuries, and unnecessary enforcement.
