What’s it like to work at a Lower Manhattan hotel? For Maya, it’s a treat. (Or five.)
Maya is an 8-year-old Golden Retriever who dutifully serves as the “canine concierge at” Gild Hall, the luxury boutique hotel on Gold Street. She came to the hotel by way of her owner, Simon, who started bringing her to work with him on his overnight shifts over 5 years ago.
The staff and clientele quickly warmed to her (how could you not), and she soon became a fixture in the lobby. Her sweet and gentle demeanor, fluffy look and perpetually wagging tail help endear her to the dozens of guests checking in and out of Gild Hall each day.
We spent the day with her recently to get an idea of what life as a canine concierge entails. In addition to her standard duties – saying hello to guests, receiving belly rubs, earning treats, napping – she posed for the camera wrapped up in a cozy robe for a promotional photoshoot. She also became the first signee of Gild Hall’s new custom guest book, a space for guests to write reasons why they love New York.
To reward her for another day of hard work as a hospitality professional, we brought her over to for a treat and some new digs.
If you’re looking for a NYC hotel with exceptionally adorable customer service, now you know where to go 😉🐶
