Fresh on the heels of a $500 million investment announcement from Toyota, Joby Aviation on Thursday unveiled a prototype of its electric air taxi in the middle of Grand Central Station, drawing crowds of onlookers, equally puzzled and amazed.

The flashy Manhattan event was attended by executives from Joby, Uber and Delta Airlines, each significant stakeholders in the public company, which went public on the New York Stock Exchange three years ago. Here, in a nutshell, is their pitch: Electric taxis are not just a futuristic concept, they're rapidly becoming a reality.

Six bullet-shaped propellers laurel the black and white aircraft like a crown, and seem large enough inside Vanderbilt Hall to lift King Kong, let alone the body of this elegant, ultra-modern carbon fiber 5-seater. Though it appears light and compact, the empty aircraft weighs about 4,800 pounds and feels a lot like climbing into the belly of a helicopter.

The Dylan Hotel's year long renovation is nearing completion. We have a brand-new lobby, renovated guestrooms and suites, an expanded fitness center and re-conditioned elevators.
