You don't want to miss this: August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse, a six-planet parade and the Perseids meteor shower peak.

The eclipse will cross northern Russia, Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain and a small part of Portugal.

Much of Europe and parts of North America and northwestern Africa will see a partial eclipse instead. Proper solar-viewing protection is essential anywhere the Sun isn’t completely covered.

Before dawn, Mercury, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn will be the easiest planets to spot in the apparent six-planet lineup.

Uranus will likely require binoculars or a telescope, while Neptune will require a telescope. The display begins around August 11 and continues for several mornings, so the planets won’t form a single tight cluster.

After dark, the Perseid meteor shower will peak overnight from August 12 into August 13. With a new moon that night, observers in dark locations should have especially favorable viewing conditions.
