Meet Chris & Monica Pennings — the heart behind Christopher Jacobs Winery at Pennings Vineyard. 🍷🤎

One of my favorite things about photographing places throughout the Hudson Valley has been meeting the people who make them special, and Chris and Monica are exactly that.

They are genuinely some of the sweetest people. They make everyone who walks onto their property feel welcome, and they go above and beyond for their visitors. Watching the way they interact with their customers, friends, and family made me feel like they both encapsulate so much of what the Hudson Valley is all about: great wine, delicious food, genuine connection, and relaxing scenery.

Their property is full of smiles, laughter, good conversation, hard cider, wine, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile.

And fall might be one of the best times to experience it. 🍂

As the weather starts to cool down, Fireside Fridays bring live music, a food vendor, and a warm campfire for guests who want to spend the evening outside.

They’re also open Saturdays and Sundays from 12–5 PM, and throughout October, Sundays include live music and a food vendor…the perfect stop for anyone spending the day leaf peeping around the Hudson Valley.

“I’d say the consistent, high-level ex*****on keeps me coming back. I’ve been to so many other HV restaurants that are hit-or-miss. One out of a few meals is good, or good one week but not the next. The consistency at DC is unmatched. Also, the chefs are cooking which makes a huge difference. Always fresh ingredients. My favorite seasonal dish was poached cod over local corn puree with cherry tomatoes and micro greens. Honestly their food is nonpareil.” — Ash

We recently hit 100 reviews as hosts — and a 4.96 average rating.

That's the equivalent of scoring a 99.2% on an exam spanning nearly 2 years.

But here's the part I actually want to talk about. Over that span we have NOT been close to perfect.

We've missed items during a pre-stay inspection. We've had HVAC issues. We've had hot water go out. We've had to replace broken and missing items in someone's kitchen mid-stay.

We are definitely not a perfect operation. No one is.

What 100 reviews has taught us — or maybe just confirmed — is that great hospitality was never about being mistake-free. It's about how you show up when something goes wrong. It's clear communication. It's taking care of the guest in front of you. It's making sure that even on the bumpiest day of a stay, someone still leaves feeling relaxed and taken care of.

That's the standard we're building Artisan Stays around. Not perfection — care.
