🐾 BIG NEWS at Plumtree Campground & Retreat! 🐾

One of the most requested amenities from our amazing guests is finally becoming a reality — a dedicated DOG PARK! 🎉

We're excited to announce that we're repurposing our greenhouse into a fun new space where our four-legged campers can stretch their legs, make new friends, and enjoy some off-leash playtime.

🐶 Separate areas for large and small dogs
🐾 Safe, enclosed play spaces with a shade tarp
🌄 Picnic tables will be added for guests to hang out while the pups play the day away
🌲 A unique addition to make camping even more enjoyable for the whole family

Of course, no dog park announcement would be complete without our official "Camp Dog" and model extraordinaire, Stella! ❤️ Stella has already given her tail-wagging approval and can't wait to welcome all her furry friends.

We love listening to our guests and are always looking for ways to make your stay even better. Stay tuned for progress updates as we put the finishing touches on this exciting new addition!

We’re excited to announce that the remodel of our “Little Green Bathhouse” is officially complete! 🎉

What was once one of the oldest and most outdated bathhouses in the park has been completely transformed into a fresh, modern, and comfortable space for our guests to enjoy. While the renovation took a little longer than expected, it was absolutely worth the wait.

This double bathhouse now features:
✨ Spacious walk-in showers
✨ Built-in benches
✨ Large vanities with granite countertops
✨ Towel hooks
✨ Durable composite flooring
✨ Beautiful beadboard walls

We hope these upgrades make your stay at our park even more enjoyable and comfortable. We’d love to hear what you think the next time you visit!

The burn ban has been lifted per the State of NC and the Fire Marshal of Avery County.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: May 2, 2026
Local Burn Ban Lifted; Residents Urged to Use Extreme Caution
Avery County, NC — The Avery County Fire Marshal's Office has announced that the local burn ban will be lifted effective 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026. This action follows improved environmental conditions, including recent rainfall and seasonal vegetation growth that have reduced wildfire risk.
In coordination with local efforts, the North Carolina Forest Service has also lifted statewide restrictions on open burning in 81 counties including Avery. Officials emphasize that while conditions have improved, fire danger has not been eliminated.
“Spring green-up has helped lower the overall fire risk,” officials said. “However, residents must remain vigilant and practice safe burning at all times.”
Safety Guidelines for Outdoor Burning:
• Keep all fires small, controlled, and contained
• Never leave a fire unattended
• Have a water source or hose readily available
• Ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area
• Avoid burning during windy or dry conditions
• It is still illegal to burn anything but yard waste and tree debris. Any trash debris burning will be investigated and could be turned over to NCDENR (Air Quality)
• Persons are responsible for their burning. Out of control fires can result in a local or state fine.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather conditions and check for any updates or additional restrictions before burning.
Officials remind the public that careless burning remains a leading cause of wildfires. Anyone planning to burn should take all necessary precautions to protect lives, property, and natural resources.
For more information, contact the Avery County Fire Marshal's Office or visit the North Carolina Forest Service website.

Our community has always been at the heart of everything we do. 💙

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we witnessed both the challenges and the strength of our region. During that time, we decided to remain open for normal operations, support our community by hosting relief workers and provide a safe place for displaced families.

Recently, a negative Google review was shared regarding a pre-existing reservation during that period. We truly understand how difficult and emotional that time was for everyone, and we never take a guest’s experience lightly. As a small, locally owned business, we strive to operate with fairness, transparency, and consistency, especially during unprecedented situations. While we may not always be able to meet every expectation, our goal is always to do what’s right for both our guests and our community as a whole.

What continues to define us is not one moment, but the many experiences shared here, families making memories, campers finding peace in the outdoors, and a community that shows up for one another when it matters most.

If you’ve had a positive experience with us or believe in supporting small businesses that give back, we would truly appreciate you sharing your story or leaving a review. Your support helps us continue to grow and serve this incredible community.

Thank you for standing with us, we’re proud to be part of this place and grateful for each and every one of you. 🌲

One of our favorite days of the year is here at Plumtree Campground & Retreat! 🎣

Today our friends from Cable Trout Farm out of Elk Park stopped by to stock the pond with 150 beautiful rainbow trout, and we couldn’t be more excited. Watching those rainbows hit the water means one thing — camping season at Plumtree is about to get really good. 🌈🐟

There’s nothing better than spending a peaceful mountain morning by the pond, casting a line, and seeing who can reel in the first rainbow of the day. Whether you’re an experienced angler or just want to relax by the water, this is one of the moments that makes staying at Plumtree so special.

A big thank you to Cable Trout Farm for helping us keep this tradition alive each year.

🎣 Planning a visit? Grab your fishing pass, bring your pole, and come enjoy fresh mountain air.

Who’s ready to catch dinner?
