Cowles Scout Reservation

Cowles Scout Reservation Cowles Scout Reservation has served an estimated 115,000 youth since 1920. In May 1920, William H. The Scouts helped in the garden and took care of the animals.

The reservation features the Bill Burch Outdoor Training Center for Wood Badge and National Youth Leader Training. Cowles purchased 80 acres on the north shore of Diamond Lake and donated it to the Spokane Boy Scout Council. In 1925, in order to improved food service and keep budgets low, the camp planted a vegetable garden, obtained four cows and 125 chickens. On July 13, 2007, the council offici

ally began its new Cub Country program based out of Carbon Lodge temporarily until a new dining hall and program facilities are built in the Finch Lodge area. The council is actively raising the funds necessary to build the dinning hall, program facilities and other improvements to Cowles Scout Reservation. In 2011, the council had a record number of Cub Scouts attend camp programs at Cowles Scout Reservation. The camp has become a premiere educational site where youth learn leadership, survival, and career skills and benefit from positive mentoring relationships with thousands of dedicated volunteer leaders. Today, the camp is in use year-round and serves more than 2000 youth plus leaders and parents annually through summer programs, weekend programs, Klondike Derbies, camporees, training programs and more. With the exciting changes ahead, the camp will positively impact the lives of thousands of youth every year for generations to come.
