There are also many wonderful restaurants within walking distance from Hillcrest Inn.

Wine on 3rd is one of our favorites. They do not have the biggest menu but they have delicious entrees as well as tapas style plates and a wonderful wine and martini list http://www.wineonthird.com/ . They are about a 15-20 minute walk up 3rd street but there you will find free parking on the street as well as in their lot if you prefer. Pretty much the only post in Niagara Falls there is free parking other than here at the Bed and Breakfast.

A short walk up Buffalo Ave. toward the Falls is the Red Coach Inn. They are a historic Inn with an array of dishes. http://www.redcoach.com/restaurant.html .

The opposite way down Buffalo Ave a short way is a little Italian restaurant called Villella’s. They only have about 8 tables and they are not much to look at from the outside but their food is delicious. Their portions are large and they are very reasonable. They do not have a website but you can view their menu here http://www.menupix.com/niagarafalls/restaurants/440263/Villellas-Italian-Ristorante-Niagara-Falls-NY .

You may also want to check out the Niagara Culinary Institute. They have a few different restaurants and I believe I saw them putting fireplaces out on their patio. They are located on Old Falls Street. http://www.nfculinary.org/restaurants-and-retail.php

I had a guest ask about some things to do in September so I’ve listed some websites and details for you to check out.

Lockport itself has a very interesting history. You can tour the locks on the Lockport Locks and Erie Canal Cruise http://lockportlocks.com/ You can also view the other side of the locks on the Lockport Caves and Underground Boat Ride http://lockportcave.com/ This one is very popular and sopts are filling up quick. There are also many wineries and some breweries in and around Lockport. You can check these out at https://niagarawinetrail.org/

Lewiston is about a 15 minute drive from here. Everything there is along Center St. There are some antique shops and restaurants. For something romantic you may want to go to Carmelo’s, you can see their menu at http://www.carmelos-restaurant.com/
or for a beautiful water view there is Waterstreet Landing and The Silo. The Marble Orchard Ghost Walks are held in Lewiston on Saturdays. The group gathers at 7:00pm in the Peace Garden at 476 Center St. I believe the cost is about $15 per person.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is about a 30 minute drive up the Canadian side of the river. It sits on Lake Ontario across from Old Fort Niagara on the American side in Youngstown. This is a beautiful European type of town with all their shops and restaurants along Queen St. They also offer horse drawn carriage rides. You can have high tea at the Prince of Whales hotel and restaurant or they have a candlelight tea which sounds romantic as well. http://www.vintage-hotels.com/princeofwales/afternoon_tea.php
There are also so many wonderful restaurants to choose from. The Ghost Walk there is a pretty spooky one as well. One of my favorite so far. The cost is $15 per person and this time of year spots will probably be filling up quick. You can check them out at http://www.ghostwalks.com/niagaraonthelake.htm

On your way up to Niagara-on-the-Lake you pass the butterfly conservatory, the botanical gardens and the Canadian Niagara Wine Trail. Inniskillen is a very large one that offers tours daily from 10:30am – 4:30pm every half hour at $10 per person.

Paranormal Walks 2016Folklore, ghosts, UFOs, curses, historical mysteries, miracles, strange creatures, vampires, conspiracies, strange deaths, demons, angels, and secret societies.

I forgot to give a big shout out to Jason & Erik at Lake Effect Ice Ice Cream in Lockport. They have an amazing array of flavors. Check them out at lakeeffecticecream.com and for my local family and friends you can pick up pints at many local stores. Check out their site for details. You will not be disappointed!!

Born and raised in Lockport, New York, I was always into the cold stuff: I played ice hockey, devoured ice cream, prayed for snow, drank my fair share of ice-cold pops, (but also love the hot wings and great cup of hot coffee, too). As a lifelong western New Yorker, I've always been fond of the regi...
