Fishcamp Repair Update: The Dig Continues 🔧
The heavy iron is earning its keep. The crew has the excavator right up against the Lodge, digging and tracing underground lines that this winter decided to destroy in places we haven't even found yet. That's the fun part — you don't know what's broken until you uncover it.
James is overseeing every foot of it. What we know: water main is being reconnected. What we're still finding: more surprises underground courtesy of the worst freeze Ninilchik has seen in two decades.
38 years of Fishcamp. We've weathered a lot on this river, but this one is testing us. The work isn't cheap, the list keeps growing, and the season is knocking on the door.

The Flag Still Flies at Fishcamp 🇺🇸
Ninilchik just survived its worst winter in twenty years — and she didn't go easy on us. Months of extreme cold drove frost so deep it buckled buried utility lines across the area, snapping water mains and electrical cables underground where nobody could see it. Half the neighborhood lost power, water, or both. Welcome to spring on the Kenai Peninsula.

In 38 years of running this camp, we've never taken a hit like this one. But the flag is still standing, and so are we.
Our Lodge Engineer James Ledbetter is on the ground working through the list: new electrical feeder from the meter to the Cabin, a full water main excavation and replacement from the well to the Lodge, COP, and Cottage, a fried electrical run between the Lodge and COP (direct short — she gave up the ghost), and interior panel work to the guest rooms.

We're asking for two things:
Prayers. For James, for the property, for a cooperative thaw, and for the ground to stop fighting us.
Electrical angels. If you're a licensed electrician who's ever wanted an excuse to visit Alaska, pull wire on the Ninilchik River, and eat well while you do it — we might be your people. Serious inquiries and good attitudes welcome.

We're aiming to open camp in four weeks. Almost four decades in, one tough winter isn't going to keep the lights off for long.
