🚛 Following Hurricane Milton, the City of Venice has activated its emergency contract with commercial debris hauler Crowder Gulf. This debris hauler has already mobilized six crews throughout the City, clearing roadways and staging for debris removal. Please be mindful of these teams as they work to make areas accessible and safe for the public.

Residential vegetative and construction debris collection will be the next phase, and the City will announce when these efforts are underway. You may begin preparing your debris now by separating white goods from construction and demolition, and vegetative debris. ⬇️ SEE BELOW GRAPHIC

‼️ At this time, FEMA has authorized the pickup of storm debris on public residential streets ONLY. The City is planning to request approval from FEMA to collect debris from manufactured home communities and mobile home parks, condominiums, and private streets. The City will announce if and when this approval is granted.

Remember to use caution when operating chainsaws or other equipment and to stay hydrated. Debris collection always takes some time and multiple collection passes will be made as we work to clean up the impacts from Hurricane Milton.

Good morning from Harbor Lights on Casey Key!

Our little family owned business has survived Hurricane Milton! We definitely received the biggest beating we have ever gotten from any storm, but with lots hard work, we should be up and running in a month or so. Ben's brother found this Storm Chaser Spotlight video below, Casey Key is at the 1.24 mark. And when we arrived onsite to survey the damage, we were interviewed by a reporter. Strange times! Casey Key took on the biggest hurricane in our family's 30+ years here. The beach landscape is so different it is hard to explain. I would guess that the Gulf front buildings all along the Key have 3+ more feet of sand on their properties than they had before the storm. Making the view bright, wide, and open. Especially with the lack of dunes and missing trees and foliage. With our 4 vacation villas in total, only the 2 villas up front have water intrusion due to hurricane force winds. The sandbags helped keep most of the storm surge out of the buildings. Both bayside vacation villas stayed nice and dry. The water inside is certainly not as bad as when the roof blew off during Hurricane Ian 2 years ago. Thank goodness! It will still take a significant dry out and a bit of repair. The property has sustained multiple sink holes in our shelled/graveled areas. This is the main damage at Harbor Lights. One sink hole exposed the main water lines to the front building. We still need to determine if there is plumbing work to do. The Nokomis Beach sand is flowing through the property all the way to the docks making the entire property look like a dried up riverbank. We feel incredibly fortunate that structurally we did great! The gutters and soffit will need work, but all the roofs held up. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our guests, family, and friends. We look forward to welcoming you back for a wonderful beach getaway just as soon as we can. Much love to everyone affected by this storm and much love to all the people who will be working in the recovery efforts.
