In addition to the other great restaurants within walking distance of Casa Nokomis, we now have a couple of terrific food trucks nearby, and you don't even have to cross US41 to get there! Yo Daddio BBQ and Groovin' Grouper are both at the corner of US 41 and Nippino Trail, just a couple of short blocks from us, not far from the Nokomis Center Park. Trucks are normally there from Tuesday through Saturday nights, though they might be away on Friday or Saturday nights if there are festival events nearby. Groovin' Grouper is the latest addition, and a very welcome one, run by the former owner of the popular Left Coast Seafood, which was destroyed in one of our hurricanes. This weekend they will both be at the Venice Blues and Reggae Festival at Venice Airport, but will be back on the Nokomis corner this Tuesday. The friendly owners of Yo Daddio is celebrating the addition, saying, "Nokomis now has Surf and Turf!" Here's Groovin' Grouper, doing a bit of sweet festival groovin'.

Our latest review just came in! We still have a week available March 21-30, 2026, so give us a shout on Airbnb if you are interested. We would even give you a bonus discount! Come enjoy what our last 76 guests have rated 5 stars across the board, and a Guest Favorite. Not to mention, our plumerias will soon be in bloom, and you wouldn't want to miss that.
"The cottage is incredibly charming and in a wonderful location. The host has gone above and beyond in furnishing and stocking the home with everything a visitor might need. We had excellent communication and she provides a wealth of information on things to do and see, restaurants, etc. We especially loved the proximity to the Legacy Trail for cycling."

We have opened up our calendar for shoulder season 2025 and peak season 2026! February and March have two week minimums, and monthly rental and longer is also available now. Lots of new airlines coming in and some even having direct flights to Sarasota, Punta Gorda, and Ft. Myers airports. We'd love to see you this fall, winter or spring!

Today's New York Times featured an article about what vacationers should bring with them to holiday rental homes if they plan on doing any real cooking. While some guests visiting Casa Nokomis opt for dining out while on vacation, some enjoy cooking many if not most of their own meals. What I found interesting about this article is that every single item the Times suggested guests bring (I'm assuming they are referring to people driving to their vacation destination) we furnish at Casa Nokomis, including those they deem as "nice to have's but not necessary" and many more, including a modern induction range. So it's not a coincidence we've been rated as a 5-star Guest Favorite by guests for providing everything they expect, and then some. It's just part of how we like to create a home away from home at Casa Nokomis.
Here is The New York Times list. (Notably absent is a good wine opener and foil cutter!)

Must Haves:
Skillet
Dutch Oven
Sheet Pan
Sharp knives
Sharpener
Microplane
Y shaped Peeler
Food Storage containers & Ziplocs
Spices
Coffee-making devices
Measuring spoon and cups
Mixing bowl
Pie pan
Meat thermometer

Nice to haves:
Rice cooker
Multicooker
Wooden spoons

Our latest review is in! “What a fantastic place! The ambiance is perfect for a relaxing stay with everything you could think of! Beach chairs? ✅ Beach towels? ✅ Super comfy bed? ✅ I could go on and on! It’s also a great location, with a 5-10 minute drive to the North Jetty and 5-10 minutes drive to Venice Ave. You can even walk 3 minutes to the end of the road to a great cafe and then stop and shop some antiques on the way back. Nancy was proactive about sharing directions and codes before arrival which made my late evening check-in easy. Highly recommend!”

Here is our latest 5 star Airbnb review from our visitors from Sweden, who came for a visit not long after Hurricane Milton. We are also still enjoying our Superhost status, and Casa Nokomis is one of the properties in the "Guest Favorites" category on Airbnb. We are happy to be recovering quickly from the hurricane conditions in the garden.

"Despite the hurricanes that ruined a lot in the surroundings, Nancy had cleared up the garden in good condition so we could eat our meals outdoors. The house is like a complete home. Incredible equipment high quality on all kitchen decor. Nancy is responsive and very generous person. We really recommend it's accommodation."

Post-Milton update: Aloha friends, here is our latest good news update. Casa Nokomis, which is 100 years old this year, was unaffected by both hurricane Helene and Milton, and we are so grateful. We had no storm surge on our block at all. We lost a few fence panels and plants were damaged, but that was about it. Internet and cell service is restored, power is working and stable, and our weather couldn’t be better.

Nearly all of the lovely plants in local affected areas have taken a hard hit, and although many look more brown instead of green right now, they will recover. Nokomis beach has reopened, as has Siesta Key Beach. Downtown Venice is open and thriving, and most of our restaurants and shops are back in business and ready for season. Selby Gardens’ Spanish Point has reopened as well, as has Oscar Scherer State Park.

We will be taking reservations for Casa Nokomis exclusively through Airbnb for this season, so if you would like to visit, and we hope you do, we will be opening up our 2025 season dates starting November 1. I will write a post here with a link to the property on that day.

We proud Floridians really appreciate your patronage, especially at this time. As always, we offer you a premier luxury vacation property in a fantastic location, and we would love to host you. Best wishes, Nancy
