To the Priest Lake community, and specifically the Lamb Creek Precinct Voters,
As a follow up to announcing that I am running for the Lamb Creek Precinct Committeeman (PCO) in the upcoming May 19th Republican Primary Election, I have been asked to expand on my values and reasons for running. The first reason I am running is because many voters have not realized that through the PCO their questions and concerns at the community level can be heard at the county level in the form of the Bonner County Republican Central Committee. Since I announced my candidacy about a week ago I have spoken to around 50 voters that were not aware of the following:
1) The responsibilities of a Precinct Committeeman is to serve as a conduit for community concerns, values and priorities up to the county, legislative district, and state party levels.
2) Many did not know who the current PCO was or if we had one at all.
3) Many did not know who Mike Fife was when I told them he is the current PCO.
For clarity, I spoke to two people who did know Mr. Fife, and just one was aware of his elected position. If I am elected the voters will know my responsibilities and how to get a hold of me if they have questions, concerns or thoughtful ideas for improving our way of life around Priest Lake and Bonner County. Aside from running a small business that performs work at around 100 properties around the lake annually, I am also a member of the West Priest Lake Volunteer Fire Department and have coached many local youth sports teams for the last decade. My wife Hope is the Pre-School teacher at Priest Lake Elementary, where two of my sons also attend. My oldest son is at PRLHS. I value public education and parental choice for home schooling. Parents should always have the ability to make the best decisions for their kids and family. The biggest priorities of my life are God, My Family, and the amazing Country that we live in. The Priest Lake area is a beautiful place to live, and is a community that constantly supports its neighbors, sometimes financially but more often with time. I have been a registered Republican since I turned 18, but that does not mean I turn my back and ignore the concerns of differing viewpoints. I am a great listener even if my wife says otherwise. If you would like to meet in person I will be at the following locations unless otherwise posted.

Below is a short list of some concerns that I hope to help bring solutions to, and please let me know yours:
-The rapid rise of home prices and taxes that look to only get worse over the years to come, as well as the rise of vacation rentals limiting availability of year round rental homes.
-The United States Forest Service owns around 42% of the land in Bonner County and a significant amount of its timber is not being managed at all, which is decreasing forest health and increasing wildfire risks year after year. This includes many hazards along Highway 57 that the USFS and the Idaho Department of transportation seem to have as a low priority.
-More volunteers are needed for our Fire Departments and EMT’s
-The Highbridge rebuild on Highway 57 coming in 1-2 years and the timeline and impact it will have on the local economy as well as East River Road residents should be well communicated amongst the community.
Thank you,
Shane Horlacher
One more Note, this is the first time I have been on Facebook in six years. I will rarely be on this. Thank you.
