Some places carry memory in their bones. Norfolk is one of them.
This beautiful piece from The Goshen News traces the enduring legacy of Ellen Battell Stoeckel; the woman whose passion for music, community, and the arts quite literally shaped this corner of the Litchfield Hills. From founding the Norfolk Glee Club in 1898 (the same year Manor House was built) to commissioning works from Sibelius and bequeathing her estate to Yale's use to promote the arts and music, her life was a testament to what becomes possible when culture is treated as infrastructure — not amenity.
We are proud to call this town home, and proud to be part of a tradition of hospitality that has always believed beauty, music, and gathering matter.

Join us for a special reception for Norfolk artist Babs Perkins and her recent work in the ancient Japanese art form of suminagashi, or “black ink floating.” Dating back over 1,000 years, suminagashi is a meditative marbling technique in which ink is gently floated on water and transferred onto paper, creating intricate, organic patterns that are both spontaneous and serene.

Meet the artist and experience the delicate beauty of this traditional art form up close. Light refreshments will be served.
