As we wind down summer, there is still a lot going on in Beach Haven! The "off-season" or "shoulder season" or "local summer" is a time to enjoy all the benefits of Beach Haven without the crowds. Restaurants and shops are still open, the beach is beautiful, the pace is calmer...
Catch a show at the Surflight Theatre or a sunrise or visit the New Jersey Maritime Museum or watch the sunset at the bay...
And don't forget the first weekend in October is about supporting our local Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company and Beach Haven Chowder Cook-Off - so make those plans!

Bay Village, Beach Haven, New Jersey, ca. 1970–72.

Opened in 1966 and designed as a nostalgic, old-fashioned shopping village, Bay Village is seen here only a few years after its debut. The photograph captures a formative moment in Long Beach Island’s postwar transformation, when Beach Haven’s resort landscape was being reshaped by automobile tourism, new commercial development, and the changing character of the Jersey Shore.

Locals recall certain stand-out businesses that shaped the character of the Village, including the fudge shop, still in existence, Bay Village Pizza, still serving the best slices in town, and perhaps the greatest shop of all, The Dollar Parlor or The Parlor as it later became known, under the hilarious leadership of Michall Maloney.

The loss of The Parlor of Beach Haven, is recognized by locals and visitors to LBI, as a serious and sad setback from the glorious days and nights of Bay Village.

People say that if you listen carefully on a quiet summer night, you can still hear the sounds of frightened screams and laughter from unsuspecting newbies to the shop that had the rubber spider drop on them from ceiling above.
