Near the small fishing village of Benagil in the municipality of Lagoa, Portugal, is a massive, domed sea cave with a natural circular hole in the ceiling (called "the eye" or skylight) that shines light down onto a hidden sandy beach inside.

We had a wonderful experience at Taverna. Owner and chef Claudia and her staff were exceptional, and every dish was prepared and served with real love and care. If you're ever in Albufeira, this is a must-stop for fine dining!

What amazing mammals

These highly social, fast-swimming marine mammals recognized globally by their distinct crisscrossed, yellowish-tan and grey hourglass pattern on their sides.
Physical Characteristics.
Adults grow between 1.9 and 2.5 meters (6.2 to 8.2 feet) long. They typically weigh between 80 and 150 kg (180 to 330 lbs).
They feature long, thin beaks with up to 50 to 60 small, sharp, interlocking teeth on each side of both jaws, countershading with a dark grey back and a white belly, separated by the signature side hourglass pattern.
Behavior and Social Life
They are exceptionally fast swimmers, reaching speeds of up to 30 mph (nearly 50–60 km/h) and live in pods ranging from 10 to 50 individuals and can form massive mega-pods or super-pods numbering in the thousands when food is plentiful. We saw at least a pod of 40-50!
They are famous for leaping high out of the water, bow-riding on the waves created by boats, and exhibiting playful surface behavior which was amazing to witness 😊
Feeding primarily on schooling fish (like mackerel, herring, and sardines) and squid, often working cooperatively to corral prey into tight "bait balls"
