A beautiful Airbnb means nothing if the bed isn’t clean and comfortable.

When we arrived, the bedding smelled like sweat and clearly wasn’t fresh. I contacted the host, and they kindly brought us clean linens. We changed the bed ourselves and thought, okay, problem solved.

Not quite.

When we finally tried to sleep, the entire bed was bouncing every time one of us moved. And yes, guys — we were literally just trying to sleep. 😅

Clean bedding and a comfortable, stable bed are not luxury extras. They are basic hospitality standards.

Guests remember how they slept.

We checked into an Airbnb in Playa del Carmen, and one of the first things I checked was the bed.

No mattress protector. No pillow protectors.

That’s a red flag.

Mattress and pillow protection should be a basic standard in any professionally managed vacation rental. It protects the guest, protects the property, and shows that someone is actually paying attention.
