Be aware and be careful... it's motorcycle rally season! The first rally is the Spring Myrtle Beach Bike Rally, May 8-17, followed by the Atlantic Beach Bikefest May 22-25. While most of the events for the first rally happen on the South Strand, and in Atlantic Beach for the second rally, there are a significant number of motorcycles on the road everywhere throughout our area during these events. Have fun, be respectful, and be careful! Look out for each other and have a great time! Bike and trailer parking are only permitted in the overflow parking lot on 33rd Avenue.

Storm update as info from our trusted local weatherman.
For those currently in-house or arriving in the next several days... the current forecast for Erin is that it will NOT directly impact the Grand Strand area, but rather turn north. We will experience rough ocean conditions next week, but as of now are not expected to have high winds or rain. We will continue to update as necessary. The resort will remain open unless there is an active threat of a major storm to our area and a mandatory evacuation.

TROPICAL STORM ERIN UPDATE
7 PM THURSDAY 8-14-2025

After a relaxing afternoon in the lagoon at CocoCay in the Bahamas, I’m back in my room before dinner with an update on Tropical Storm Erin. Bottom line: no surprises today, and my forecast remains the same.

Erin has shaken off the dry, dusty air and is now strengthening. With warm water and low wind shear ahead, steady intensification is expected. Erin is likely to reach hurricane strength Friday and become a major hurricane (Category 3 or higher) over the weekend.

The track outlook hasn’t changed either. The western edge of the Bermuda high is still forecast to weaken as the jet stream dips south, allowing Erin to gradually curve northwest, then north, late this weekend into next week. The exact sharpness of that turn remains uncertain, but most scenarios show Erin passing between the Outer Banks and Bermuda Wednesday. A track on the far western edge of the model guidance is very unlikely, and even in that case, wind and rain wouldn’t reach us.

Although rain and wind are very unlikely here, Erin is expected to grow into a large, powerful hurricane that will send long-period swells toward the coast. This means big surf and dangerous rip currents all next week, even with the weather on land staying fairly nice. Keep your beach plans, but PLEASE use extra caution in the water.

As always, until the turn actually occurs, we watch just in case.

❄️ Winter Weather Alert: Prepare for Harsh Cold and Potential Snow Next Week ❄️

The City of North Myrtle Beach is actively monitoring the potential for winter weather next week.

The National Weather Service reports increasing confidence in the potential for winter weather early next week, with the most likely window for snow between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. While it is too soon to estimate snow amounts, even minor snowfall could cause impacts.

Harsh cold is expected Monday through Wednesday, with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. These harsh temperatures will require precautions to stay safe and warm.

How to Prepare:

Protect Your Home:
- Insulate exposed pipes or leave faucets dripping to prevent freezing.
- Ensure your heating system is in good working order.
- Seal drafts around windows and doors to retain heat.

Plan for Travel:
- Monitor forecasts and road conditions.
- Allow extra time for commutes and consider delaying non-essential trips if snow is present.
- Keep a winter emergency kit in your vehicle, including blankets, water, snacks, and a flashlight.

Bring Pets Indoors:
- Pets are vulnerable to extreme cold. Bring them inside where it’s warm and safe.
- Provide a warm, dry shelter with blankets if outdoor housing is unavoidable.
- Ensure pets have access to fresh, unfrozen water and plenty of food.

Stay Safe Outdoors:
- Dress in layers, wear a hat, gloves, and sturdy shoes or boots.
- Limit time outside, especially for children and pets.
- Be cautious of ice on sidewalks, driveways, and steps.

Check on Vulnerable Neighbors:
- Ensure elderly or at-risk neighbors have adequate heating, food, and supplies.
- Offer assistance with winter preparations if needed.

Prepare for Possible Power Outages:
- Have flashlights, batteries, and non-perishable food on hand.
- Charge electronic devices in advance.

Cold temperatures and winter weather can be dangerous, but taking these steps now will help you and your loved ones stay safe.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available!
