The North Rim Campground Reopens June 1!

We're excited to welcome campers back to the North Rim Campground beginning Monday, June 1, 2026.

From June 1–5, campsites will be available on a walk-in, first-come, first-served basis, with check-in and payment available at the adjacent Aramark General Store from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Online reservations through Recreation.gov are expected to become available as early as next week. Once reservations are live, five campsites will remain available for walk-in camping throughout June.

Nestled among ponderosa pines and aspens at 8,200 feet, the North Rim Campground offers a peaceful and scenic basecamp for exploring the North Rim's trails, viewpoints, and spectacular canyon vistas.

⚠️ Fire Restrictions in Effect:
For visitor safety and to protect the park, all wood burning and charcoal fires are prohibited, including campfires, warming fires, and charcoal barbecues.

Visitors should be aware that:
💧 Potable water is not available at the campground but is available for purchase at the nearby General Store.
🚻 Portable toilets are available for visitor use throughout the campground.
🚿 Campground showers and laundry facilities will remain closed for the 2026 season.

The campground is best suited for tent camping and smaller RVs, as many sites have tight turns, narrow clearances, and length restrictions.

North Rim Reopens for Summer 2026

A quieter, rarer side of the Grand Canyon returns this summer. The North Rim is scheduled to reopen for the 2026 season on May 15, welcoming visitors back after the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire.

This season offers something different. With fewer services and lighter visitation, it’s a chance to experience the North Rim in a more reflective state and see firsthand how the landscape is recovering.

Visitors can expect access to select scenic drives, viewpoints, and trails, with use focused mainly on day trips and limited backcountry opportunities. Services will be very limited, so planning ahead is essential. Potable water, fuel, lodging, and other amenities may be unavailable within the park.
The General Store and Gas Station are expected to provide basic supplies along with grab-and-go food and beverages. The North Rim Campground is anticipated to reopen for tent and RV camping (no hookups) as conditions allow, with reservations available through Recreation.gov once confirmed.

As recovery work continues, conditions may change and temporary closures may occur to ensure visitor safety. We encourage visitors to stay informed before arriving.

The North Rim has implemented Stage 3 water restrictions as of July 1, 2025. Restrictions are a result of issues with the Roaring Springs water pump and reduced water levels in storage tanks.

What this means:
💧 Lodges and restaurants are reducing water use where practicable
💧Restrooms at the Visitor Center and outside of Grand Canyon Lodge are closed (portable toilets available)
💧Campground restrooms and water spigots remain open
💧RV dump/fill stations, the Admin Building, North Kaibab trailhead, and Visitor Center water spigots are operational

How visitors can help:
✅Limit flushing, when possible, in lodging and residential areas
✅Take shorter showers and turn off water while brushing teeth or shaving
✅Be mindful of water use

We appreciate your help in conserving water during this time as the National Park Service works to resolve the issue. Stay up to date here 🔗

To help protect the beautiful environment we all enjoy, we invite you to follow these Leave No Trace principles during your visit to the Grand Canyon. Practicing these guidelines helps ensure that nature stays pristine and enjoyable for future guests, local wildlife, and the surrounding community.

📍 Plan Ahead and Prepare
Know before you go! Check weather conditions, local rules, and activity guidelines to make the most of your visit while staying safe and minimizing your impact.
➡️ Scenic drives are a great way to explore the North Rim. Use designated pullouts when stopping for photos - these areas are designed to keep both visitors and the environment safe.

🥾 Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Please stay on marked trails and designated areas. This helps protect fragile plants and prevents erosion and long-term damage to natural landscapes.

🚮 Dispose of Waste Properly
Please dispose of trash in proper bins or pack it out. Use provided waste and recycling stations and help us keep nature clean by picking up after pets and disposing of waste responsibly.
➡️ The Colorado River and other water sources in the park are essential habitats - help protect them by properly disposing trash to prevent water pollution.

📸 Leave What You Find
Take only photos and memories. Leave rocks, plants, and cultural artifacts as you found them so others can enjoy them too.
➡️ The Grand Canyon is a place of great cultural significance for the 11 traditionally associated Native American tribes. Damaging or removing artifacts means these communities lose a part of their cultural heritage. If you find something, snap a picture instead!

⛺ Minimize Campfire Impact
Use designated fire pits and follow all fire safety guidelines. Keep fires small, never leave them unattended, and fully extinguish them before leaving.

🦌 Respect Wildlife
Observe animals from a distance. Do not feed them—it’s harmful to their health and can change natural behaviors.
➡️ Avoid using single-use plastics, which can harm wildlife. Reusable water bottles and bags are an easy way to help.

🤝 Be Considerate of Other Visitors
Share the outdoors respectfully. Keep noise levels down, yield on trails, and help maintain a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere for all guests.

✨ Bonus Tip: Protect the Dark Skies
Help preserve the North Rim’s incredible stargazing by using amber-colored lights when possible. Amber lighting causes less light pollution and is more wildlife friendly.

Since June 1, an area-wide power outage has affected the North Rim. Reservations through Sunday, June 8th, are impacted, and our teams are notifying guests. On-site food services remain closed. The National Park Service teams have made steady progress, restoring power to several key areas, including the General Store, fuel station, campground showers and laundry, and employee housing. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to restore lodging and food services. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4jFvrvk

The National Park Service (NPS) has identified the cause of a recent power outage affecting the North Rim as an equipment failure involving a transformer near the Grand Canyon Lodge. Power has been out at the Grand Canyon Lodge since approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.
