💛 A MESSAGE FROM KAIBAB LODGE
Our hearts are heavy once again as we watch our beloved North Rim face another devastating tragedy, this time with the recent flooding and its impacts on our community, the trails, and the people who live and work here.
We want to take a moment to share a little perspective from the other side of the headlines.
Kaibab Lodge is a small, family-owned and operated business. We are not directly affiliated with Grand Canyon National Park, the National Park Service, or the trailheads, but we have always considered ourselves part of the North Rim community. We support the park, the trails, the hikers, and the people who come here to experience this incredible place to the best of our ability.
And the truth is… the last two years have been incredibly difficult.
Our business depends almost entirely on hikers and tourism to sustain a seasonal operation. Operating a business in such a remote location is challenging under the best of circumstances. Maintaining a property, keeping employees, bringing in supplies, stocking our store and restaurant, and preparing for a season all come with costs that are significantly higher simply because of where we are.
Transportation alone is a battle.
Supplies and merchandise have to travel great distances to reach us, and the cost of getting what we need to the North Rim is substantially higher than it would be in a typical community.
Our employees are another incredibly important part of this story. Because of our remote location, we rely heavily on the work-camping community. Many of the people who work here travel hundreds or even thousands of miles to spend their season with us. We are incredibly grateful for every person who makes that commitment.
Then came last year’s disasters.
And now, another season impacted by tragedy.
We are feeling it. Deeply.
But we are still here.
We are working.
We are adapting.
We are supporting our employees.
We are supporting our community.
And we are doing everything we can to keep Kaibab Lodge standing strong.
🌲 The North Rim is strong. And so are we.
To everyone who has stayed with us, hiked with us, worked alongside us, stopped by our store, shared a meal, bought a souvenir, recommended us to a friend, or simply sent a kind message—thank you. Your support means more than you know.
❤️ A note about reservations
We know many of you are currently trying to figure out what happens with upcoming trips, cancellations, closures, and rescheduling. Please be patient and kind with our reservations team. They are working diligently to navigate an incredibly difficult and constantly changing situation and are doing their best to work through each reservation individually.
We also want to be transparent about our cancellation policy.
Our standard policy states that reservations canceled within two weeks of arrival are non-refundable. This policy has always been published on our website and is in place to help protect our small business from the enormous financial impact of last-minute cancellations.
After enduring the devastating circumstances of last year and now facing another major disruption this season, we simply cannot absorb every loss that comes with last-minute cancellations.
We are a business, but we are also a family. We have employees, bills, supplies, equipment, property, and an entire seasonal operation that depends on these reservations.
We understand that these circumstances are heartbreaking and frustrating for everyone involved. We truly do. We will continue to work with our guests as much as we reasonably can while also doing what is necessary to keep our doors open and our employees working.
Please remember that behind this little lodge are real people who love this place just as much as you do.
So please keep the North Rim, our neighboring businesses, our employees, our first responders, our park partners, our hikers, and everyone affected by these events in your thoughts.
We are not giving up.
Kaibab Lodge is still standing.
The North Rim is still standing.
And with the support of our community, we will get through this together. 🌲❤️
Thank you for your patience.
Thank you for your understanding.
And most of all, thank you for your love for the North Rim.
