Some of you may remember the cottages before they were dressed in vinyl, when they were clad in cedar and painted white. This photo was taken around 1972 and shows the cottages open for the season. They required lots of hard work and maintenance to get them ready, and they still do. The majority of the cottages have now removed the vinyl and returned to cedar shingles.

The cottages c.1944, before the first seawall was built. Imagine walking right out of the cottages and onto the beach! A protective offshore sandbar was lost in a storm which made the area more vulnerable. Fortunately, the Days family foresaw possible future damage and built a series of strong seawalls, our current one was built in 1978.
Notice the screened porches. These were glassed in during the 1950s.

Some wonder what the interior layouts are. Here is an example from a vintage promotional ad. Most cottages retain a similar floor plan to this day.

Primrose Cottage 22 joins those who have taken part in historic restorations of their exteriors! It’s really great to see these old Cape Cod cottages being cared for.

While owners can alter their interiors in whichever way they choose, the exteriors must adhere to prescribed specifications.

A few cottages stayed open during the storm but most are asleep for the winter. Inhabitants have been busy this morning digging themselves out. It’s so nice to have people there to enjoy the cottages this time of year!
