The Truro Emergency Management Team is now monitoring a MAJOR Coastal Storm Sunday night through Monday, impacting Cape Cod.

• 12-18 inches of snow expected
• 65-70 mph wind gusts possible at times
• Coastal Flood Watch for up to 3 feet of inundation during the Monday tide cycles

The combination of strong winds with wet snow on trees will increase risk for tree damage and power outages. Use caution near trees and powerlines. Keep flashlights, food, water, and charged devices available. Residents are encouraged to limit travel during periods of heavy snowfall to allow snowplows and utility crews space to work. Make preparations for snow plowing now.

If there are any emergencies related to the storm, residents are asked to call 911. For non-emergency information and general inquiries, please call the main number 508-487-8730. In the event of a power outage, residents can text OUT to 23129 or call Eversource 1-800-592-2000. Utilize MEMA’s real-time power outage viewer to stay informed about current power outages, including information from utility companies about restoration times: http://mema.mapsonline.net/public.html

Please visit Truro’s Emergency Management & Preparedness page for more information: https://www.truro-ma.gov/emergencymanagement
The Truro Emergency Management Team will provide an update Sunday morning after the next Barnstable County briefing.

As we approach the holiday weekend, it's important to remember to always be SHARK SMART when you visit our beaches!

Cape Cod's waters are part of a natural and wild marine ecosystem with a rich diversity of sea life, including sharks and seals. Seals are the major prey species for the great white shark. Sharks often feed on seals close to shore, and they’ve been observed near swimming beaches.

Everyone going into the ocean should exercise caution and be willing to assume the level of risk associated with their behavior prior to entering the water.

If you decide to venture into the waters off Cape Cod, learn how to be Shark Smart: https://www.nps.gov/caco/learn/news/cape-cod-national-seashore-urges-residents-visitors-to-be-shark-smart-this-summer.htm

In addition to being shark smart, visitors should always be aware of their surroundings for other potential risks, like rip currents and sun exposure. Layer up on that sunblock!
