The final touch of this dining room project (for now) was installing this chandelier and dimmer switch. I highly recommend Wright Electrical Group LLC for doing this and installing some outlets to the back enclosed porch so that we can now plug in a lamp and fan, and in the winter, could have a space heater out there.

The chandelier did a lot for warming the space since instead of just having a bright light in the middle of the white ceiling, it has several amber colored bulbs that give more "from the side" lighting.

Well worth in in my opinion, what do you think?

Backing up again to painting the dining room. Little by little we are painting the wood paneling from the 50's. I like the green because I think it fits the peaceful vibe, but choosing colors has proven difficult.

Initially, I painted the dining room a dark green, which I think can look good, but there just isn't enough natural light in that room, plus the paint went on way too thick, so after painting nearly the while room, I hated it and spend an entire day just sanding the first coat of paint off (not su fun).

I still don't know about this shade of green, but I like it more now that we have added decor (see some of previous and following posts to see how this room as developed!).

I will say that using AI to see how different shades look in the space is really going to help moving forward. We've already used it in some of the decor choices for the dining room and I think I can move forward with future painting projects with more confidence in the overall plan (and hopefully way fewer paint samples and trips to the paint store).

Backtracking in reverse order - this dining room table project. And wow, it was a project.

We bought the set for $50 from Facebook Marketplace. We thought the set was so cool but there were some major wear and tear issues.

It took about 2 years to do all of the steps to get it looking as it does now (working intermittently of course), including hauling it to Harrisburg so my sister could work on it there.

What we did:
- sand, refinish, and polyurethane the top
- reupholster the chairs
- paint the chairs and table legs black

Seems simple when I put it that way, but it was a whole thing including buying materials, tools, and learning several new skills (I went to a professional upholsterer to teach me how to nail gun the newly uphostered chair backs on to the chairs).

I don't know that I would do all of that again, but I am happy to have a one-of-a kind set in our house for guests to enjoy!

I'm about 2 or 3 major decorating tasks behind in updating the photos on our listing, lol. But new photos are forthcoming. In the meantime, I will share our latest project here on the page.

My sister Amber and I did some major decorating mostly of the dining room and also a bit of other areas of the house.

One highlight was the gallery wall which is a mixture of antiques (we went antiquing in Lancaster before coming up to NC), as well as some shelves my sister already had (they were white and she painted them black), and several items for Hobby Lobby.

The process involved some using ChatGPT to arrange the objects we already had in an aesthetically pleasing manner (and told Chat it was fine to add extra things), and some trial and error arranging them on the floor.

Then we traced the objets on craft paper and hung those on the wall before drilling the holes to hang the pieces. That part was really important to get the spacing right. I’m really happy with how it turned out! I think it adds a special and interesting touch to the space 🌿
