Point Lookout has undergone some big changes recently.
Initially, Point Lookout was built as a a corporate retreat for MBNA. It continued to serve that purpose when Athena Health acquired the property. For the first 20 years of its existence, the facilities worked well for this purpose. However, without major corporate infusions of capital, continuing operations were unsustainable.
Fortunately, the facility will not be closing - it will simply be redesigned. While some portions of the property are no longer accessible to guests, such as the Copper Pine Cafe and the summit, other portions of the property will continue to be open to public use. These areas include the trail system, the soccer field, and the fitness center. The fitness center is being upgraded and will remain free for guest use. In addition, the guests can continue to enjoy the beautiful views from the many trails at the neighboring Camden Hills Sate Park.
The cabins are available as vacation rentals from May to October of each year. There are 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom cabins available for rent. Both of these cabin sizes include a kitchen and two bathrooms. The 3-bedroom cabins have a second floor master suite with a king sized bed. Cabins all have screened-in porches with L.L. Bean adirondack chairs and a private parking spot. The newly upgraded fitness center is free for guest use during a booked stay.
