Wow! The price they paid....
The 4th of July!!
Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men
who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,
and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army;
another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or
hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes,
and their sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
Eleven were merchants,
nine were farmers and large plantation owners;
men of means, well educated,
but they signed the Declaration of Independence
knowing full well that the penalty would be death if
they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and
trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the
British Navy. He sold his home and properties to
pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British
that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
He served in the Congress without pay, and his family
was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him,
and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,
Walton , Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that
the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson
home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General
George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed,
and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.
The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying.
Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill
were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests
and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his
children vanished.
So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and
silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.

Remember: freedom is never free!

I hope you will show your support by sending this to as many
people as you can, please. It's time we get the word out that patriotism
is NOT a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer,
picnics, and baseball games.

"Stop That Villain!" Melodrama Dinner Theater at the Eagles Lodge in Norton. Script written by Tim Kelly about an unscrupulous card cheater and his wily ways with women. The premier showing on Saturday, August 1st (6:30pm), features a smoked pork chop dinner catered by Rich Hageman. The Sunday matinee on August 2nd (2pm) will have a dessert bar available. Check out the local cast in comedic western tale! **Advanced tickets only**

Saturday March 28th., The Norton County Horse Council will be holding the 7th. annual "BBQ & Boogie" Hog Roast & Dance! featuring Live Music by the one and only Tim Sprigg!

It all starts at with a Barbecued Pork Meal form 6-8 PM, a Silent Auction from 7 -9 PM, Including a Gun Raffle and a "Buckle, Boots, & Spurs Raffle" (Be sure to get your tickets). and Live Music from 9-Midnight.

The Gun Raffle will include an Henry Golden "Big Boy" chambered in .45 long C**t, and a "R***r Blackhawk Convertible"
Revolver, that shoots .357, .38, and 9mm. Tickets are $5.00 ea. or 5 tickets for $20.00. The first ticket drawn will receive the Rifle, and the second will win the Pistol. Winner need not be present to win.

The admission is a free will donation, with the proceeds to help fund a New Crow's Nest, Bleacher Improvements, Handicap access, and general maintenance at the Norton Equine facility.

The next Club Meal will be on Saturday March 14th. Prime Rib or Chicken will be back on the menu! The Grilled Chicken Breast Meal will be $ 13.00, The Prime Rib meal will be $ 18.00.

That same Evening, Tim Anthony and the Animals will be here for a Night of great music! Admission will be $ 5.00 each.

Combo tickets for both the meal and the dance will also be available, which will save you $1.00 if you get the meal and the music!

Valentine’s Day! The Norton Eagles will be serving Prime Rib or Chicken Breast dinner Saturday February 14th. Starting at 5:30 PM, the meals will include baked potato, salad, Ice tea or water, and a desert. Other drinks are available at the bar. Prime rib: $17.00, Chicken: $12.00 The Dance hall will be open, and David Cressler will provide DJ music afterwards for dancing and socializing, donations will be accepted. So bring that Special person in your life out for a Great meal, and maybe some dancing on Valentine’s day.

A big thank you to everyone that showed up to help out last Saturday. we got the floor repaired, it still needs a little finishing, and we got yhe office wll up in the Auxiliry room, it nees a little finishing also, (just not enough time in the day).

So here's what's happening for April:

The Kitchen is open Tuesday thru Thursdays from 6-8 PM, and will also be open on Monday the 7th, 6-8PM for anyone who wants to come out and watch a little Basketball (yep, MARCH MADNESS!!!)

Regular Meetings are the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every Month, at 7:30 PM, (The 9th. and 23rd.) all Members are welcome, and encourged to attend.

Bingo is every Sunday, the food stand opens at 5PM,
Bingo starts at 7 PM. (No Bingo on th 20th, Easter Sunday).

Texas Hold'em Every Tuesday night at 7PM. kitchen opens at 6PM.

"Finger Food Friday" is the 2nd Friday of every month. (the 11th.) Members and guests are welcome ot bring out snacks or dishes to share with everyone, and socialize starting after 5:30PM.

The 12th is the Club dance featuring Jim Christensen.
