Our sites offer water, electricity, sewer, cable, wifi, picnic table and fire pit. Amenities include general store, gem/fossil mining sluice, pool, fishing pole rentals, private stocked fishing pond, lake access, laundry facility, dog wash station, propane fill station, clean bathrooms, hot showers, store, walking path, weekend activities/games/events, playground, horseshoes, and a dump station.

What a weekend! Thank you to everyone who made our 9th Annual BBQ Cook-off one to remember.

To our cooks: thank you for the early mornings, the long hours at the smoker, and for sharing your BBQ with all of us. To our judges Cindy Talbert, Lyn Misenheimer, and John Dunn: thank you for giving us your time and your taste buds. And to every camper who grabbed a ballot, rode the Terrainables, and packed the Rec Hall for BINGO: you're what makes this tradition special.

The smokers are fired up! Our cooks have been at it since early this morning, and it's BBQ Day at our 9th Annual Cook-off!

TODAY'S SCHEDULE (for registered campground guests)

12–2pm: BBQ Tasting & Voting (FREE)
Pick up your ballot at the office between 12 and 1pm. No ballot, no BBQ! Visit each site, then drop your vote in the white box beside the office door.

4–5pm: Terrainables (FREE)
Line up on the lawn between the office and the fishing pond.

7:41pm: BBQ Winners Announced + BINGO
In the Rec Hall. $2 per card or 3 for $5, cash only.

Meet Your 2026 BBQ Cook-off Judges!

Welcome back, John Dunn! John fell in love with BBQ in 2001 helping a friend cook whole hogs for NASCAR parties. That friend would never share his sauce recipe, so in 2003 John bought his own cooker and struck out on his own. After gallons of apple c***r vinegar, "Slappeez" sauce was born!

In 2017, on his first camping trip to Norwood Campground, John saw a sign on the office door asking for someone to cook the annual Halloween pig picking. He happened to know a guy. He cooked the hog, entered the contest on a whim, and took Third Place, and that lit a fire! From 2018 to 2021, John and his cooking partner PJ Strickland won 3 first-place trophies and 2 Campers' Choice awards here, including both in 2019.

This year he's on the other side of the table. See everyone tomorrow!

Meet Your 2026 BBQ Cook-off Judges!

Please welcome our NEW judge, Cindy Talbert! Cindy was born and raised right here in Stanly County. Her food journey began in 2016 when she launched CiCi's Concessions. In 2023 she teamed up with her son, David McKethan, to start Fat Macks Food Truck, and it grew into two local restaurants: Fat Macks Grill in Gold Hill and The Family Fork right here in Norwood. Through it all, Cindy has remained passionate about great food, genuine hospitality, and serving her community. Her dedication, hard work, and love for what she does continue to be a huge part of the heart behind both businesses.

We're excited to have her at the judges' table this Saturday!

Your SATURDAY (Sept 26th) event schedule is here!

Our 9th Annual BBQ Cook-off is this Saturday, and all events are for our registered campers and guests.

12–2pm: BBQ Tasting & Voting (FREE)

Stop by the office between 12 and 1pm to pick up your ballot and the list of participating sites. You won't be served without a ballot! Visit each site, then return to the office, circle your favorite, and drop your ballot in the white box beside the office door.

4–5pm: Terrainables (FREE)

Line up on the lawn between the office and the fishing pond.

7:41pm: BBQ Winners Announced + BINGO

Winners are announced right before BINGO in the Rec Hall (the open-windowed building near the pool). $2 per card or 3 for $5, cash only. Every dollar goes back out as prizes, and your cards are good for every game!
