Hydrogen sulfide is nothing to trifle with. Brass and copper turn black even at concentrations that are safe to breathe. Higher concentrations of over 50 ppm can irritate the eyes and lungs. The biggest danger is how it displaces oxygen because the gas is heavier than air. My industrial training contributed to the placing of this cave on the back burner because of safety concerns and other projects. Despite this I made plans to revisit the cave at a water level that allowed access to the system without having to remove gear in the hypoxic chamber, just beyond the mouth of the spring opening. I studied and consulted on human entry into enclosed spaces that contained H2S. I was prepared to analyze the atmosphere in the cave and make it safe for exploration. I affectionately named the project “the gas chamber”

Big bend coast versus big bend region. Here is video footage from Horseshoe Beach, a town 35 miles south from Ground Zero in (Keaton beach).
I hear people say that the hurricane did not “make the turn” and go where it was supposed to go. I hear this from professionals paid to warn us about the dangers of these storms. Part of the problem is that they rely on sources like Wikipedia, (see map/description below) and they lack basic geographic skills that are needed to reliably inform people in the path of a storm. This post by cavedivecamp.com shows a map from Wikipedia, a source for reliable information, cough, cough. It clearly shows a difference between the big bend region and big bend coast which likely lead to confusion by purveyors of information. I personally did not know there was a difference until I saw the confusing map from Wikipedia and relying on unreliable network news who got this wrong. You can see the big bend region is nowhere near Steinhatchee, which is part of Florida’s Nature Coast in Florida’s big bend area coastline that includes small fishing villages that were hit very hard by this hurricane and two others within little over a year. https://youtu.be/Vmw1td71um0?si=bBcWGX_62j9zEgAU

Conditions at Little River spring. A strong boil was spotted today. As usual cavedivecamp.com will offer 1 to 2 cave divers a chance to dive Little River via watercraft while the flow is down and the park is closed.

Among the debri, the fallen timbers and in the forgotten depths of a remote craggy collapse, a notably strange creature exists. To endeavor to glimpse this creature in the wild, one commits to submerge within its watery domicile, for this creature chooses a habitat of total darkness within the hollows of the earth's aquafarian strata. In these watery depths, a hidden opening, only the size of the creature itself, is all it takes to induce the creature on a path where no man can follow and no man has ever been.
