Oatfield Rd. Water Project: Final Paving Starts Next Week 🚧

Final paving is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Paving will follow a similar path as the pipe work. Crews will begin in the northern section of Oatfield near Aldercrest and move south.

Traffic impacts will also be similar to the pipe work, with full closures to through traffic. We recommend using an alternate route during paving if possible, or following posted detour signs.

Local access will be maintained. Please coordinate with crews when exiting driveways, as heavy equipment will be operating on-site.

We appreciate your patience during this important final step!

It might not look like much yet, but this unassuming construction site will soon become a water-cleaning powerhouse.

Our new tertiary treatment facility will help us treat wastewater more effectively—allowing us to meet new regulations, avoid fines, and better protect local waterways for years to come.

Construction is now underway, and we’re excited to share updates as the work progresses.

While the past 24 hours have brought rainy weather, our area is likely to see a drier-than-usual summer. We need your help to keep our rivers flowing!

Below-average winter precipitation led to lower snowpack in the mountains. Mountain snowpack acts as a natural reservoir, slowly melting and feeding rivers and streams. Lower snowpack typically means less available water during the summer. This affects not only the region's water supply but also wildlife like salmon.

One of the best ways to help keep our rivers flowing is to conserve water where you can:

🌼 Water wisely: According to the EPA, up to 50% of water used outdoors is wasted due to ev***ration, wind, or runoff from overwatering. Tools like the Weekly Watering Number can help you use only what you need: https://www.regionalh2o.org/water-conservation/outdoor-water-conservation/weekly-watering-number

💦 Switch to water-efficient technology: Devices like irrigation controllers or low-flow hose nozzles help make saving water easier. Our partners at Clackamas River Water Providers offer great rebates to help residents conserve water: https://www.clackamasproviders.org/conservation-rebates/

🚗 Limit non-essential use where you can: Lush, green grass may look great, but it also uses a lot of water. It's estimated that 30-60% of urban fresh water is used on lawns. Consider letting yours go dormant for the season. Or try to cut back on things like washing cars at home or filling pools: https://www.epa.gov/watersense/start-saving

Smoke Testing Starting in Oak Grove Next Week 💨

Next week, our contractor will begin smoke testing in Oak Grove ahead of planned sewer system upgrades. We know it can be concerning to see smoke coming from the ground, so we wanted to share more information about the work and what to expect.

What is smoke testing?
Smoke testing is a way to find cracks and other problems in the sewer system.

How does it work?
A white, odorless v***r (colloquially called “smoke”) is blown through sewer pipes. The v***r escapes through cracks in pipes or other system issues, such as uncapped cleanouts. This helps us identify where repairs are needed.

Is it safe?
Yes. The v***r is non-toxic to people, pets, and plants.

Staff responded to a small sanitary sewer overflow at the OLWS treatment plant on Sunday morning.

Less than 1,000 gallons were spilled, and none is believed to have reached the Willamette River. The spill occurred on private property with no public access, and there is no direct risk to the public. The area has been taped off as a precaution.

The site has been cleaned and appropriate agencies have been notified.

Possible Water Pressure Changes 🚿

Over the weekend, crews responded to a water main break in the Jennings Lodge area. Due to ongoing issues, some customers may be experiencing reduced water pressure across the service area.

Tomorrow, January 27, crews will shut down a section of the main for a full repair. During this time, customers may continue to notice changes in water pressure.

Normal water pressure is expected to be restored by the end of the day once repairs are complete.

Customers who will experience a full water shutoff during the work have been notified directly.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to restore normal service.
