This is heartbreaking:

“Her owner came to reclaim her.

Then they found out she was heartworm positive.

Their response

“Never mind. Just euthanize her.”

Seriously.

So now she’s here. A black pittie with scars covering her face and body. Heartworm positive. Not a fan of other dogs. Every checkbox that makes shelter dogs easy to discard.
But look closer.
Those scars tell a story. A story of a dog who has clearly survived more than any dog ever should. And somehow, despite everything, she is gentle. She is kind. She leans into affection. She looks at people with hope she has absolutely no reason to still have.

Who could blame her for not trusting other dogs after whatever left those marks behind?

What amazes us is that she still trusts people.

The odds are stacked sky-high against this girl. But we refuse to believe her story ends here.

She doesn’t need perfection. She doesn’t need a miracle worker. She just needs one person willing to see beyond the scars, beyond the diagnosis, beyond the labels.

One person willing to give her the life she should have had all along.

What is worse?

Knowing your family has the power to save your life and choosing not to?

Or believing them when they say they will be there for you, only to find out they never intended to show up at all?

This dog is about to die because the shelter is full. Not because he did anything wrong. Not because he is aggressive. Not because he is sick.

He will die because the people who were supposed to love him and protect him are willing to let that happen.

And now he sits in a crowded shelter, just another brindle pit bull in a sea of dogs that all need homes. The reality is that dogs that look like him already have the odds stacked against them. They are overlooked every day while time runs out.
He doesn't know his family gave up on him. He doesn't know nobody has stepped forward. He only knows that every day he waits, hoping someone will come.

Unless someone gives him a chance, that hope will end in a shelter kennel.

He deserves better than being forgotten.

**** REMEMBER: I AM JUST A BUSINESS USING MY BUSINESS PAGE TO TRY TO HELP DOGS, IF YOU DONT WANT A DOG TO DIE BE THE ONE STEPPING UP TO HELP. DO NOT ATTACK ME FOR TRYING TO HELP.

"An EXTREMELY FULL 📍 Lancaster County Animal Shelter, SC

His people promised they were coming back for him. He waited. We waited. But they never showed.

You’d think that kind of disappointment would dim his spirit, but somehow this sweet boy refuses to let it. He still greets everyone with a wagging tail, a happy smile, and enough love to go around. He’s friendly, affectionate, and ready to trust again despite every reason not to.

Now he’s waiting for someone who actually means it when they say, “I’m coming for you.”

Let’s make sure that person finds him.

Isle of Dogs was created out of one of the hardest losses of my life, losing my Maggie.

When I started IOD, my hope was to create a place where families could make the memories with their dogs that I no longer had the chance to make with her.

That’s why it means so much to me that Kasey was able to visit Isle of Dogs twice before his family said goodbye. Their story touched me so deeply that before leaving town, I offered to meet them and take some photos together. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to meet Kasey in person—he was truly a special dog.

I can’t change how the story ends, but knowing that Isle of Dogs was part of some of Kasey’s final memories means more to me than I can put into words. Those moments will live on forever, and being even a small part of that is exactly why Isle of Dogs exists.

He dies without you

“Last week was brutal. Every single day, staff and volunteers fought for every kennel space they could find. Somehow, enough dogs made it out that disaster was avoided.

But that means this week starts all over again.

And for dogs like Rango, that matters.

Because if nobody steps up, if nobody shares, fosters, adopts, or rescues, Rango won’t grow old with a family. He won’t spend years playing with dog friends. He won’t get the chance to be the amazing dog we know he is.

He will die in a shelter kennel.

That is the reality these dogs face.

📍 Lancaster County Animal Shelter, SC

Meet Rango.

Just 1 year old, incredibly handsome, great on a leash, appears potty trained, and absolutely obsessed with other dogs. If you want a dog that lights up around canine friends, this is your guy. Rango is the kind of dog who would happily spend his days playing, wrestling, and making new buddies.

He has the looks, the personality, and the heart. What he doesn’t have is time.

Our properties will never be like most others because they were created by dog lovers, for dog lovers. We built them to be the kind of places we always wished existed—a place where the entire family, including the dogs, is welcome and where special memories are made.

We allow up to 4 dogs, although it’s pretty clear we sometimes make exceptions. 😊

We don’t discriminate based on breed or size… clearly!

Everything we do is centered around creating a great experience for dogs and the people who love them. Knowing families are making memories together at our properties is exactly why we do this.

And yes… these were our guests! 🐾

Let’s see if you can guess what they are! Comment your guess below, but PM me the breed so everyone else doesn’t cheat! 😆

Input Request:

I am thinking of adding digital frames to each property to showcase dogs in need of adoption. Would you as a guest be bothered or offended by this? My idea would be to have a photo, then a QR code with the dog’s story and adoption information. Our properties are all within about 2–3 hours from where these dogs would be located.

I would genuinely love honest feedback.

I also would love ideas on other ways we can use our properties to help homeless dogs get more exposure. We already photograph shelter dogs, use our social media to network them, and every year allow people helping homeless dogs to stay with us for free.

For those that do not know the story behind our rentals:

Isle of Dogs was created because we needed a place where our dogs were truly welcomed. After losing Maggie, I realized how many memories and trips I wish I had made with her, and how hard it was to find places that genuinely embraced dogs instead of simply “allowing” them. So we created what we wished existed.

That is why Isle of Dogs and Dog Mountain are not typical “dog friendly” rentals at all. They were built around dogs.

(1) We do not discriminate based on breed or size.
(2) We allow up to 4 dogs, and sometimes more depending on the situation.
(3) We intentionally chose locations where dogs can truly enjoy a vacation with their families.
(4) We focus on layouts that work well for dogs, from single-level homes to fenced yards and dog-friendly spaces.
(5) Most importantly, we put tremendous thought into hosting dogs so they are not simply tolerated, they are truly our guests.

I especially want to help dogs like Remmie and Safari, but there are so many amazing dogs sitting in boarding facilities and shelters that simply need more exposure and one person to say yes.

Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.
