The number of NC-licensed commercial fishermen is in rapid decline. In fact, over the last twenty five years the industry in NC has experienced a 58% decline. In 2000 there were 4367 active commercial license holders, compared to just 1851 in 2024. The changing regulations, “graying of the fleet”, and those leaving to make a living in other fields, have severely affected the industry.

So….Insist on it! Ask for it! Buy it! Put it on your plate! Protect it! Support it!

VERY excited to see the release of 16 Green, & 13 Kemp Ridley sea turtles this afternoon! These turtles were stranded/cold stunned in Massachusetts this past Nov/December, then taken to the National Aquarium in Baltimore MD to rehab. They were transported to OKI in banana boxes!
