Visiting Yosemite in the Winter?
Wondering about the weather, road conditions, and will tire chains/ cables be required?

Here is Yosemite & nearby weather and road info...
1) Tioga Pass ( Highway 120 East) and Glacier Point Road (Beyond Badger Pass Ski Area) close in winter, roughly in November, and remain closed until May or June. Here is a history of open/close dates:

2) Use NOAA website to get weather specific to a zip code or address. Yosemite zip code: 95389
3) Use Caltrans for road conditions outside Yosemite. Search Highways on which you will be traveling (e.g. 41, 49, 140)
https://roads.dot.ca.gov
4) Using Caltrans quick map, under "Options" you can see if any road closures, or chain control areas

5) If staying in Oakhurst, your route likely is the Highway 41 and over Deadwood, 3000-ft elevation. If it ever receives snow, Caltrans is quick to plow and sand the road. Deadwood web camera:

6) If visiting Yosemite, November to March, all vehicles must have R2 chains/cables in their possession, even 4WD & rental vehicles. If renting a vehicle, check with the rental company about allowing the use of tire cables, or if provided.
In the event you come across a CHP checkpoint & don't have R2 tire chains/cables in your possession, they may turn you around.
