Vanishing Ocean City With Bunk Mann

The 1920s were a time of growth and prosperity in Ocean City. The railroad brought visitors to town on a daily basis, and the automobile became an important factor for the first time.
Some of the town's most popular hotels were built during this decade including the Shoreham (1922), the Lankford (1924), the Liberty Farms (1926 and later renamed the Majestic), and the Mayflower (1927). Anthony Purnell would construct Ocean City's first apartment building on Baltimore Avenue between 8th and 9th streets and name it the Ritz; it still stands today.
Growth continued on the Boardwalk with the foundation of the original Commander Hotel begun on 14th Street in 1929. It would become the town's most northerly hotel until Harrison Hall opened on 15th Street in 1951.

The winds and swell have subsided, and things are getting back to normal as the storm has finally passed us by. We have a couple more big tides to get through, but Ocean City manages to squeak by somewhat unscathed again!

Crews are already cleaning up and finishing setting things up for Country Calling music festival this coming weekend, let’s hope for better weather!
