On Saturday, I will be speaking about Booze, Badboys & Bootleggers Vol. 1 and 2 at The Little Bookstore in Cape Vincent, New York at 4 p.m. I was pleased recently to discover this small bookstore chain in Jefferson County was also carrying my books in Clayton and Watertown. The store manager in Clayton told me my books are very popular with the local community and summer time visitors.

INDIA - I am always pleased when I learn that my books are selling outside the North Country region, but I have to admit I was a little surprised when my distributor, Ingram Sparks, notified me that Hookers, Heroes and Hoodlums had been sold in India!

MATERNITY AND DELIVERY CLOSURE -As the St. Lawrence County Legislator representing Ogdensburg, I was proud to speak at Wednesday night's public hearing about the negative impacts the loss of maternity and delivery services at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center will have on the Greater Ogdensburg community. I was proud to present to the hospital and deliver to the New York State Department of Health a resolution adopted by the St. Lawrence County Legislature that I cosponsored with Legislature Chair David Forsythe, Legislators Rita Curran, Joseph Lightfoot, and John Burke, as well as others. It was supported unanimously on a bipartisan basis by the full legislature. During my remarks, I argued New York State's efforts to "regionalize" health care have actually had devastating effects on rural communities across the state. Here in St. Lawrence County, we have already seen maternal care and delivery services lost in Massena and Gouverneur, and now we are facing the loss in Ogdensburg, endangering families and babies in the largest county (geographically) in New York State and East of the Mississippi. Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support for our hospital and our community. (Photo by Jimmy Lawton/ North Country This Week)

CHRISTINE THE HISTORY QUEEN FILMS SKIRMISH ON THE OSWEGATCHIE - I want to publicly thank Christine Darrow, the star of PBS television's CHRISTINE THE HISTORY QUEEN for spending the weekend filming the REVOLUTIONARY WAR battle in Ogdensburg. Christine will be telling a national audience about Ogdensburg's role in America's WAR for Independence in a full episode devoted to our colonial history. I was pleased to tell her about these important events chronicled in my book Fort Oswegatchie. I want to thank the historic reenactors who came from across New York State and Southern Ontario to help celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence. Christine is helping a national audience understand that HISTORY HAPPENED HERE and that it's worth preserving. I have convinced Christine to include Ogdensburg in two episodes in season two. You can catch Season 1 on PBS.org and YouTube. Check out episode 7 on season 1 to learn about the nine US Presidents who came to Ogdensburg.
