Each year, Starved Rock Lodge partners with InterExchange to host international students through the J-1 Work and Travel Program — a U.S. cultural exchange initiative that allows college students from around the globe to live, work, and explore the U.S. during their school break.
These incredible team members play an important role in our seasonal operations, working in areas like food & beverage, housekeeping, and guest services. In return, they gain valuable job experience, improve their English, and get a firsthand look at American culture.
We provide local housing and daily transportation to and from work, helping make their transition smooth and their experience enjoyable. Beyond the job, we also organize monthly activities to help them immerse in local traditions and explore everything Illinois has to offer — from cookouts and holiday parties to outdoor adventures and community events, and most notably, the amazing Starved Rock State Park.
This program creates lifelong memories, fosters global friendships, and brings fresh energy and perspective to our team. We’re proud to support cultural exchange and to welcome our J-1 participants into the Starved Rock family!
