One of our favorite memories from last season involved a guest from the Midwest.

They kept mentioning a strange smell, and we did everything we could to help — extra housekeeping, fresh linens, and even gave them our personal fan.

But after a couple of days, they asked us:
“Are you near some sort of water or lake?”

That’s when it clicked.

We had to explain that the Atlantic Ocean and the Ogunquit River right behind us, and what they had been noticing was the smell of the salt air!

It`s easier to appreciate it when you know what it is. The smell is indeed very special. It`s all around. That’s the price you pay to be so close to the ocean, when you can also find yourself hearing waves landing on a shore. We are used to it and enjoy it.

Sometimes it takes a first-time visitor to remind us just how close we are to the sea. A stay at Ocean Acres lets you experience the ocean.

Happy first day of summer and start of Pride Month! Our last post got a lot of reactions. Many of you shared personal stories and messages that we want to leave here for all to see. We appreciate being reminded of the strength of the incredibly friendly community here in Ogunquit, which adds so much more to the experience for both residents and travelers alike.

Last night, we experienced something at Ocean Acres that actually surprised us.

A potential guest expressed their extreme discomfort with the LGBTQ+ community here in Ogunquit and asked questions that left us feeling pretty shocked and disheartened.

It was a reminder that even in 2026, intolerance still exists.

Ogunquit has long been a place where people come to relax, be themselves, feel accepted, and enjoy this beautiful stretch of Maine coast together. That spirit is part of what makes this town special.

Our family has been here for hundreds of years, and one thing we’ve always appreciated about this place is the mix of people, backgrounds, identities, and stories that all exist side-by-side.

So heading into Pride Month, we just want to say this clearly:

We support a welcoming Ogunquit.
We support kindness.
We support people being able to exist comfortably and openly.

And honestly, experiences like last night only make us want to celebrate this community even more 🌈

This year, the Memorial Day weekend brought clouds and rain, but we were so lucky to have many lovely guests choose to stay with us. It was a pleasure talking to everyone and finally seeing our motel back to being busy. We are also grateful to the staff who came from Thailand and are helping us so much!

The next few weeks are always a bit slower — we’ll use that time to continue improving and upgrading our property for all of you 💙

Ocean Acres is officially open for 2026! Congratulations to us 🎊🎊🎉

We have already had so much joy meeting our first guests of the season. Things start to move fast, as some of them even had a chance to enjoy beach weather in May (!!)… and we managed to sell out a few dates completely. One of them being the 4th of July!

Feeling really inspired about the amazing time ahead of us. We promise to keep you posted here on our summer at Ocean Acres Ogunquit 🌊

has always been at the top of our dining recommendations for our guests around Ogunquit, since we personally enjoy it. This is REAL Mainer cuisine. The experience alone is worth visiting Vacationland!

Here, you can find authentic dishes from the area, like Congdon’s Donut Grilled Cheese and Double Flo’s Burger that we had yesterday. Everything on the menu screams Wells, Ogunquit, and York Maine. Make sure to consider Food for Thought on your hunt for cool local foods 🍽️

Many of the things we do at Ocean Acres Ogunquit, we do ourselves. We are very close to this place and care about it a lot. While both living and working right on the spot, we are ready to get our hands dirty to make it better. Direct interaction with the motel itself and everyone here is one of our strengths.

Every guest is invited to enjoy this atmosphere, shaped by the love for the place, sprinkled with our little ideas for a great experience here 🙂🌸

Opening day of the 2026 season is in a month! Just give us a little bit more time to prepare. We can`t wait to see you again to enjoy warmer spring days as well as celebrate the upcoming Victoria Day and Memorial Day holidays together.

It`s easy to notice that Ogunquit gets a little bit busier every weekend. Visiting in May definitely gives an opportunity to experience our Beautiful Place by the Sea at a slower pace before summer hits. Meaning less traffic, shorter lines for lobster rolls and, maybe, a higher chance to stumble upon a deer 🤩🌲
