We’re not a big company chasing big profits. We’re just the little red building at 108 Perkins Cove that believes in taking care of our community, one bottle of water at a time.

The heat is here, and we want to make sure everyone has a chance to stay cool. If you know someone working outside, visiting Ogunquit, or spending the day at the beach, tag them below and share this post so they know where to stop.

UPDATE: Perkins Cove Bridge Reopened
The Perkins Cove Bridge has been returned to service and is once again open to pedestrian traffic.
Town staff have identified the cause of the recent mechanical malfunction and restored the bridge to operation. We appreciate everyone's patience while we worked to safely reopen the bridge.
As many are aware, this is an aging bridge that is currently in the final stages of design for replacement. While the bridge is operational, we cannot guarantee that additional mechanical malfunctions will not occur before the replacement project is complete. Out of caution, contractors will continue their evaluation and any additional work following the holiday weekend.
If the bridge experiences another interruption, please do not attempt to walk along Shore Road to travel between the two sides of Perkins Cove. There is no designated pedestrian route, and portions of the roadway do not have sidewalks. Instead, visitors are encouraged to utilize local taxi and shuttle services or check with their hotel or lodging provider for available transportation options.
We encourage everyone to use caution, plan ahead, and enjoy all that Perkins Cove has to offer this holiday weekend. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation.

PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: Perkins Cove Bridge

The Perkins Cove Bridge is closed to all pedestrian traffic until further notice. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The bridge is currently experiencing a mechanical condition that is causing it to remain in the raised ("up") position. Town staff and the appropriate contractors are working to diagnose the problem and determine the next steps.

For your safety, because there is no safe pedestrian detour around the bridge, visitors are strongly encouraged to use available taxi or shuttle services, where provided, rather than attempting to walk between the two sides of Perkins Cove.

Public safety is our highest priority, and updates will be provided as soon as additional information becomes available.

We understand there will be questions about the long-term future of the bridge. The Town has already secured approximately $2.75 million in federal and state funding toward replacement of the bridge, and the project is currently in final design. The replacement project remains a top priority and is subject to required environmental permitting and regulatory approvals before construction can begin. The current closure is related to an operational mechanical condition, and our immediate focus is restoring safe access.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this matter is addressed.

Historic Walking Tours: Perkins Cove

Ogunquit Heritage Museum is going to be running their Historic Walking Tours: Perkins Cove starting June 24, 2026. Held every Wednesday and Thursday, from 10-11am — Reservations are necessary and need to be made by 5PM the evening before the Tour you want to attend.

Enjoy a tour of the Cove taking you back to the turn of the last century and before. Learn about some of Ogunquit’s illustrious teahouses, The Dan Sing Fan and the Whistling Oyster, and their storied histories. Some of the restaurants are highlighted and what their structures were before they became a restaurant. Barnacle Billy’s was Ansel Hutchins fish shack before 1908 when Hamilton Easter Field bought it to build a garage and a forum for his Thursday night talks.

The Cove was the center for two schools of art- Hamilton Easter Field’s Summer School of Graphic Art opened in 1911 and Charles Woodbury’s School of Drawing and Painting opened in 1898. These schools and the artists changed the trajectory of Ogunquit.

The many fishermen and their quirky personalities are brought to life in fun anecdotes.

Get information on the many bridges over the years and the various dredgings of the cove. Did you know because of the second dredging there was a gold rush? The tour offers many insights into the history of Perkins Cove and is accompanied by a brochure showing 19 wonderful vintage photographs.

Call or email the Museum for reservations, 207-646-0296 or [email protected] .
