Update:

Besides normal debris from a hurricane and 3-4 days of cleanup everything is fine in the park. At this time please do not call the office to get updates all units are fine in the park. We do not know what is going on with the roads outside the park before traveling to the park phone local authorities or D.O.T to find out about roadways. Half the State of Florida was evacuated hours and hours on roadways, before traveling everybody's coming back in the next few days if you can stay back a couple days please do. CALL office for emergencies only thank you for your understanding. Office will be open Friday morning.

All guest in the park or on there way to the park please be advise of the storm on the way. Check local news to stay updated before you travel, Please pick up around your site and secure all loose objects.

As of Sunday, October 6, at 1:00 p.m. Okeechobee County has these important updates:

Okeechobee County is currently under a FLOOD WATCH and continues to monitor Tropical Storm Milton. The County can expect increased rainfall in the days leading up to Milton’s landfall, with tropical storm or hurricane conditions Tuesday night into Wednesday lasting 12-18 hours. This forecast has the potential to change in the coming days. Residents should complete all preparations no later than Tuesday evening.

LOCAL STATE OF EMERGENCY IMPLEMENTED: Okeechobee County has declared a Local State of Emergency as of 11:00 a.m. today. The State of Florida has also included Okeechobee County in a State of Emergency through Executive Order 24-214 on 10/5/24.

LEVEL 2 PARTIAL ACTIVATION: At this time, the Emergency Operations Center is participating in state and regional monitoring calls and meeting with local officials to ensure all areas of the County are prepared for this event.

SANDBAGS are available at the Public Works Department Compound located at 804 NW 2nd Street. Limited bags (10/vehicle) and shovels will be available at the site at no charge. Citizens will be required to fill their own bags, however, if you are a special needs resident and require assistance with sandbags please call 863-763-3514 Monday between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A Community INFORMATION CALL LINE will be available beginning Monday at 1:00 p.m. and will continue as needed daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 863-824-6888.

TRAFFIC: Okeechobee residents should be prepared for increased traffic on our main roadways due to expected statewide evacuations. Residents are encouraged to prepare their homes and families as early as possible.

We leave Friday at 4 a.m. for the Taylor County Sheriff's Office to help!

Please get your donations by midnight by Thursday evening to make the trip.

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who has donated or called asking what was needed.

After a phone call this morning, I got a list of required items directly from those on site.

Those items are:

Yard cleaning tools, power and hand tools, household cleaning products of any type, hygiene products for adults and children, including diapers for both, and tampons, pads, etc.

Please bring new bedding towels or socks (not used), new gas cans or camping fuel, baby “squeeze”-style food packets, diaper rash cream, baby shampoo, and baby care items.

Non-perishable items of all types, including snacks or dehydrated foods.

Animal feed, animal health-related products, bedding, and power tools.

Specifically, dog and cat food supplies are low.

Water seems to be an item that FEMA has supplied; however, hydration sports drinks and packs of drink enhancers (tea, flavored, hydration) that can be added to water can also be helpful.

Batteries of all sizes are also in need.

Update All is good in the park we had wind and rain with a few tree branches down but we should be able to pick up everything today ! Thank you for all the your well wishes .
