🍁 Fall colors are continuing to brighten across McDowell County, and the highest elevations are starting to show off their golden hues. This week, a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway up to Mount Mitchell is a must. The views are spectacular, and being the highest peak east of the Mississippi makes it even more special.

Looking for a hike? Head to Grandfather Mountain for trails of all levels. Try the Grandfather Loop, a 1.5-mile series of connecting trails above 5,000 feet, where you might spot deep reds and yellows just starting to glow.

And don’t miss one of this week’s must-do activities, Oktoberfest at Whippoorwill Farm in the Lake James community on Saturday evening. It is the perfect way to wrap up a fall day in the mountains.
