Hot take but I’d pick a cabin in the woods over a summertime beach trip any day of the week. 😌

For one thing, the crowds.. won’t find that at our cabin, that’s for sure. And it’s not nearly as hot. And there’s no sand getting into every single thing you own. And personally I’d much rather float in a cool, clear creek at a waterfall over getting in the ocean - we happen to have the best swimming hole not too far away (Catawba Falls!)

Western North Carolina is the perfect summertime spot. You can: hike at the cooler elevations for big, beautiful views, load your favorite playlist and go for a long drive on the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway, hit up all the local farmers and art markets, pick out a shady spot at a brewery and hear live bluegrass music, or go for a refreshing swim at a waterfall.

Our little a-frame retreat is perfectly situated to be home base for so many adventures. You can do all of that within a quick 20-30 minute drive most of the time! And you won’t even have to worry about a rainy day ruining your plans because honestly? Those are the best, most relaxing days to spend cozied up at the cabin. Going out and exploring or staying in and relaxing or doing a little of all of the above.. it’s a very peaceful way to enjoy your time off.

I know that I’m in the minority when I say that I loooove winter and I know most everyone else is ready for spring, but I couldn’t let the season come to a close without a look back at our snow days this year ❄️

This was our first winter since before building, and actually since we even bought the property, where we got real snow! It was so beautiful and peaceful - there’s nothing like that classic a-frame shape covered in snow.

With spring weather definitely in our forecast, it won’t be long until the wildflowers and mountain laurel are blooming and all the green on the trees is back. Experiencing the seasonal changes out at the cabin is one of my favorite things. After years living somewhere that was basically summer and not summer (coastal GA 🥵), it feels really magical to watch these seasons come and go.

If you’re ready for spring and summer, we have limited availability for stays out at the a-frame! There’s some discounted March weekdays, one weekend left in May, and one weekend left in June. July-September opens up on April 1st!

When I think back on my original vision for the a-frame, I always pictured it covered in beautiful, rich, vintage Persian rugs. But like with so many things when you’re done building, that vision had to wait (aka was not in the budget 🤪).

Cut to nearly three years later, I was ready to replace our kitchen rug and I knew I wanted to go back to that original vision. That’s when I found in Asheville! We went to look at a couple of options for the kitchen, to buy just one rug. We bought three. And as soon as we got those three in place, we immediately went back and bought two more 😂

I honestly wasn’t even thinking about replacing our living room rugs but as soon as we put the new ones in front of the back deck doors and at the spiral staircase landing, the others just looked so bland and lifeless next to them.

The difference is massive. The color, the feel, the texture.. they’ve completely changed the way it feels when you walk in to the cabin. It feels so much more soulful and intentional and rich.

These are all Persian rugs, 100% wool, handmade, and range in age from 40 to 70 years old. As a fibers artist, I can fully appreciate the time, labor, and skill it takes to hand make something like this. They’re actual pieces of functional artwork - they’re just so beautiful.

Starting this collection has completely awoken a newfound love in me.. I can’t wait to buy more. I’ve even started collecting vintage books on rugs! I think it would be kind of a cool thing to have all these rugs and then books about them for guests to enjoy (and also hopefully fall in love with too 💕).

And when we are ready for more rugs, for the cabin and for our home, we’ll definitely go back to . Brian was super knowledgeable and helpful, and he ships! So you don’t have to be in Asheville to get your own artwork for your home. But if you’re nearby, it’s definitely a fun experience to see all the rugs he has in person.

If you’ve been here a minute, you know I’m always adding to the a-frame. At this point it’s a continually evolving art project for me. But these are forever rugs - they’ll be here long after we stop renting out and move in. ♥️

Happy New Year!! 🎆🍾✨

I hope that 2026 is the year of all these things - slower days, more books, hiking trails, finding joy wherever you can, spending quality time with people you love, and enjoying the cabin life.

My favorite part of that time of year is the way the cabin really comes to life. We added a lot more native wildflower seeds this past fall and watching them bloom is so lovely. We also have mountain laurel and rhododendrons surrounding the a-frame so that in early to mid May, there’s a sea of white and pink blooms all over. It’s stunning! And then in June, our fireflies start to come out! Last year we had SO many, way more than the year before, and I’m hoping all our time spent planting more native wildflowers will mean we have even more this year. 🌺 🌼

It’s literally the most magical time of year, of course I’m happier ❄️✨🎄

With Christmas just around the corner, I’m starting to think about how to extend these vibes into January. Fingers crossed we’ll get snow again but don’t we also deserve some extra lights and sparkle for the new year? I’ve never understood why we erase the end of fall when we could just extend into January!

That’s also when we have our next availability btw - January 5-8 and 12-14 are still available and, even better news, they’re discounted!

Of course I’m happier - it’s the ‘Ber months! 🍂🍁👻🎃

Peak leaf is finally hitting our area and with it comes all the best things about fall in Western North Carolina.

Sweater weather, hikes, the soft sound of the leaves falling, allllll the colors.. it’s beautiful. This week alone I’ve gone for several hikes to waterfalls and the tops of mountains. I’ve driven up and down windy gravel roads covered with brightly colored trees. I’ve had a pumpkin latte from my fave local coffee spot and pumpkin beers at my fave local brewery. And there’s still more to enjoy!

Get out there and have yourself a fall colored adventure while you still can. Maybe the most beautiful thing about this time of year is how truly fleeting it is.

We’ve got one weekend left for the ‘Ber months - December 18th-21st just opened back up and it’s basically all we have open for 2025. It’s the perfect time for a magical little holiday escape to the woods!

Early autumn days out at the cabin. 🍂

These are all from our stay earlier this month, which was a very special one. We had our new fireplace installed, celebrated a big birthday (look at that amazing pumpkin spice cake from !! It was SO GOOD), went apple picking for the first time, and generally got to enjoy the changing of the season.

Fall in Western North Carolina is such a dream. 🍁

I love having all the fall decorations out! And if you’ve ever wondered why we go with fake pumpkins - one of those pumpkins got mauled by a bear recently. So.. that’s why 😂

Excited for the next few weeks and watching the colors roll across the mountains here in Appalachia. It’s just the most magical experience. 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂

We’re fully booked up for this year but if you’re wanting to plan a stay, our January-March calendar opens in just a couple more days, on October 1st! Get your winter plans made - it’s going to be so cozy with the new fireplace!

A moment for our cozy little living room throughout the seasons✨💕

Watching the months pass by those windows is so magical, but next month may be the most magical one yet.

Why?

Because we are finally installing our long awaited fireplace! 🔥🔥🔥

A fireplace was at the top of my wishlist during construction, but it was also the easiest to save for later. At the time we didn’t know which one we wanted, if we were going to do wood fired or gas, and we were way over budget, so it got the ax.

I am so excited that we are *finally* going to have the living room the way we envisioned it - just in time for cozy season! 🍂

We’ve purchased a Jøtul GF 160 and it’s going to get installed centered up with our big window, about where we have the round table (and electric fireplace in last years fall/holiday photos). The thing I’m most excited about is that it’ll be the focal point for that entire side of the house. You get a feel for that in the very first photo - the whole cabin opens that direction and the fireplace will be center to that.

It’s a gas fireplace, which means it’ll be easy to use and also a reliable heat source in case the power goes during the colder months. It’s going to be such a freaking vibe to snuggle up with a book and have an actual fire illuminating the whole open area.

We’re a little over a month out from the installation- cannot WAIT.

If that sounds like the kind of winter break you need, we only have two weekends left open for 2025 and both are in December! How perfect!

The morning light and the way it filters through the trees is my absolute favorite part about summertime days at the cabin.

We oriented the a-frame east to west, to capture sunrise through the window wall in the morning and sunset on the front porch or balcony in the evenings. Combining that early morning light with the trees creates a really dreamy effect, where the light dances around whenever there’s a breeze. Even after a couple of years worth of mornings waking up to it, it still catches me by surprise with how beautiful it is to see.

Mornings are just so peaceful and quiet out there. I love walking out front with all the wildflowers while our dogs run around or staying in bed with a book. I love picking out a vinyl and turning on the record player first thing. Also, it’s just a fact that coffee tastes even better when it’s at a cabin 🌿☕️

Our summer mornings are pretty well sold out but we do have two sets of dates left - August 18-22 and September 2-4.

Next available weekend: November 28, perfect for a combination of some of the last fall color vibes and our wraparound mountain views with most of the leaves gone. Watching the sun come up over the mountains from the upstairs bed is maybe the only thing that beats summer mornings.

Happy Summer Solstice! ☀️🌸🌻

Summer is definitely in full swing - all of our wildflowers are really bursting and last night we sat out at the firepit and watched sooo many fireflies floating by for hours. It was ✨magic✨

We even have flowers blooming inside! My Hoya crimson queen is bursting with cute little flowers! All thanks to the care from our friend 💕

Our summer calendar is very nearly full but we just had a cancellation! So if you want flowers and fireflies and peace and quiet, act fast:
