🌊 Beach Safety Reminder! 🌊
Rip currents can be sneaky and strong—even on a beautiful beach day.
👉 If you’re ever caught in one:
✔️ Stay calm
✔️ Swim parallel to shore, not against the current
✔️ Then head back in safely
Let’s keep everyone safe and smiling on the beach this summer! 💙☀️ Please share with friends & family.
RIP CURRENT ALERT
Due to Hurricane Erin, there’s a high risk of rip currents today through Sunday, Aug. 24, at S**o’s beaches. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can pull swimmers away from the shore. High surf is also expected during this time, and conditions will remain dangerous.
S**o’s lifeguards at Bayview Beach and Kinney Shores are restricting individuals from entering the water above their knees, and we’re encouraging everyone to stay out of the water – even shallow areas near shore are dangerous. More stringent restrictions may be put in place as we continue to assess conditions.
If you’re caught in a rip current:
• Don’t panic, and don’t fight the current
• Swim parallel to the shoreline until you’re free of the rip current
• Once out of the rip current, swim back to shore at an angle
• If you can't escape, float or tread water
• If you need help, yell or wave for assistance
Stay safe and always follow lifeguard instructions!
