🌈 Pride Month at The Canfield House 🌈
Onekama Equals One Love

At The Canfield House Bed & Breakfast, we believe hospitality starts with love, inclusion, and a really great breakfast.

Pride. Peace. Pancakes. 🥞
Because everyone deserves a place where they feel welcomed, safe, and completely at home.

This June, we’re embracing the beauty of authenticity, community, and connection — all from the shores of beautiful Onekama. Whether you’re here for a quiet lakeside retreat, a romantic getaway, or simply the pancakes, our porch is open to all. ❤️

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Canfield House.

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Their courage gave us the freedom to gather with family, enjoy quiet mornings on the porch, watch summer sunsets, and create memories in places we love.

From all of us at The Canfield House, we are deeply grateful to those who served and especially to those who never came home.

Wishing everyone a meaningful and peaceful Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸

Thinking about a last-minute Northern Michigan escape?

May might be the best-kept secret of the season.

The gardens are waking up, the sunsets are still incredible, the beaches are quiet, and the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet.

And for the rest of May, rates at The Canfield House are nearly 40% lower than peak summer pricing beginning June 1.

Same lake.
Same sunsets.
Same breakfast.

Just a little more peaceful.

If you’ve been meaning to plan a reset weekend, this is the window.

To the moms who plan the trips, pack the bags, remember the sunscreen, wake up before everyone else, and somehow still make it all feel effortless…

Happy Mother’s Day.

At The Canfield House, we get to watch families slow down together. Morning coffee on the porch. Barefoot walks to the lake. Sunset conversations that last a little longer than usual.

And behind so many of those moments is a mom who made them happen.

Today we’re especially thankful for the mothers, grandmothers, stepmoms, and mother figures who pour so much of themselves into the people they love.

Thank you for the comfort you create, the traditions you hold together, and the memories you make possible.

We hope today feels a little slower, a little quieter, and filled with the same care you give everyone else all year long.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at The Canfield House.

Throwback Thursday!

The story of the Canfield’s could easily become the next Netflix drama. Money, divorce, politics, affairs, scandal, and death are woven together through this family story. Each Thursday, we will give you a peak into the lumber barons life and family.

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Canfield. The following excerpt is firm the Manistee News Advocate, Jan. 3, 1891.

In 1890, Charles married Belle Gardner, the daughter of well-known local jeweler, C.D. Gardner at a lavish wedding. Details on the couple’s nuptials were published in the Manistee Advocate on January 3, 1891:

“The wedding of Charles J. Canfield and Miss Belle Gardner at the residence of the bride’s parents, corner of Second and Pine streets, Wednesday afternoon, was an unusually brilliant and joyous event.

“After receiving congratulations of their friends all sat down to a sumptuous dinner while the Gardner family band played their choicest selections. After dinner, amusements were indulged in, a bunch of mistletoe; pendant from the chandelier attracted the attention of the young ladies and suggested the time-honored observance of an old custom.”

Summer at the lake isn’t meant to be rushed ☀️🌊

It’s slow mornings, long walks, and staying long enough to actually exhale.

Our summer dates on Lake Michigan are filling quickly—especially for 3–4 night stays.
