This is a big red snapper. They can live to 57 years of age and grow to over 50 pounds. If you catch one that big, you are in the top 1%.

Most of the red snapper within 50 miles of orange beach shore are quality size. That means they are 14” to 17” in length. There are some that are larger 20” to 24” with a few being really big. They have to be 16” total lengths to keep them. The limit is 2 per person. The charter season opens June 1 and will run through end of day, August 24.

The best eating ones are those that are barely legal.
