Amazing news!!! Increase in daily limits for our fishing guests!

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission on May 22 increased the daily and possession limits for Chinook in portions of the Clearwater River basin due to a large percentage of the Clearwater return heading back to Kooskia hatchery on Clear Creek. Changes take effect immediately.

New limits are:

Mainstem Clearwater River upstream of Orofino Bridge, Middle Fork Clearwater, and South Fork Clearwater Rivers

Daily: Four Chinook, only two may be adults
Possession: 12 Chinook, only six may be adults

🎣 Spring Chinook Salmon Update – May 13, 2025

Clearwater River: Fishing now open 7 days/week (except North Fork). Limits increased due to higher fish returns.

Rapid River & Hells Canyon: Lower harvest forecasts; limits remain tighter.

Tip of the Week: Spring steelhead anglers can enhance their success by monitoring river flow gauges provided by the U.S. Geological Survey, which has stations throughout Idaho. Steelhead prefer water with a slight color—neither too clear nor too muddy. Fishing conditions can change rapidly in late winter and early spring, so timing your trips after rivers recede from runoff can be advantageous.
