Watch for these hunter’s-

Hunters, DON'T SHOOT research bears! 🐻

Bear hunting season starts Sept. 1 and researchers are requesting that bear hunters avoid shooting marked research bears (like the one featured). These bears have large, colorful ear tags and wear radio collars. 📡

Researchers with the Minnesota DNR are monitoring 50 radio-collared black bears across the state, especially in bear hunting zones 27, 45 and parts of the no-quota zone. 🧭

All but two of these bears are female. ♀️

These collared bears give us much of the data we use in bear management and are most valuable to us when they are collared for multiple years. Thank you to hunters who have opted not to take collared bears in past years and hunters who choose not to harvest collared bears this season. 🧡

What a beautiful Walleye from the Vermilion River!! Caught yesterday 08-26-26. Its a 29” 10 #
River monster is right!! The previous week there was a 27” Walleye on the 22nd. Just waiting for their photos to come to us. When we see it-you see it!! Exciting, exciting!!!

**What's your thoughts on this?**

A lot of hunters think an infected deer will always look like a walking skeleton—this side-by-side proves that’s not the case. I harvested a very healthy looking that tested positive for CWD and I chose not to feed to my family last season.

​EHD hits fast, brings on a massive fever, and deer often head straight to water looking like this if they’ve been fighting it off.

​CWD, on the other hand, takes 1.5 to 2+ years to fully progress. An infected buck can look like the healthiest, heaviest deer on your property right up until the final stage.

​I know a lot of people are skeptical about CWD, the regulations, testing rules, and how it’s managed can be frustrating, and when infected deer look this healthy, it’s easy to doubt it’s even an issue. But that long incubation period is exactly why looks can be deceiving. I harvested a very healthy looking buck that tested positive for CWD and I chose not to feed to my family last season.

Throughout our season, some of our customer’s bring us things. We don’t ask for anything but appreciate everything. From Ohio & Iowa corn to homemade syrup and fish fry meals. From wild rice from the previous year’s harvest on the Vermilion River to jackets and shirts from their home state. I thought we would make a huge thank you to each and everyone that did give us a gift. Please don’t ever feel you have to. It’s not required at all!! Your presence is more than enough. Tim & Walt gave the thermometer, key rack and hook of fish. Thank you.
History now-10 years ago when I first stepped foot on the Goldmine Camp, there was a wood carved bear that stood on the front porch of the office that held a welcome sign. I do not know who made it or brought it to Leif. Thru the years of sun and rain it deteriorated and crumbled.
Today, this hand chainsaw carved bear came to live with us from Gene Moneypenny, which he made and gave to us all that come here to enjoy!!
We thank you so much. The bear is back!!
It is an awesome piece of art and we all will appreciate it for many many years to come.

Bears,bears bears and fish!!

Looking for a place with bears for hunting this year?
This was yesterday - 8/19/26.

We are in bear hunting zone 25 and your guide is Leif.
Leif has over 25 years of bear hunting knowledge and guiding. He has been approached to be a guest in 2 separate productions on bears this year alone, due to his experience and knowledge. I am very proud of him all the time, but especially being in the productions for that expertise he posses on bears.
